Position Overview: (summary of main purpose of the job)

Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Senior Database Administrator provides leadership and oversight for all school databases at Crossroads and oversees the planning and implementation of new database products, processes and upgrades. In addition, this person supervises the registrar, and other personnel responsible for data entry and data management on the advancement team.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee database management and security;
  • Provide escalation support for production databases;
  • Work with administration, faculty, and staff to assess and respond to campus database needs;
  • Hold regular meetings with supervised staff, promote team building and work to provide professional growth paths for staff;
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, conduct performance appraisals, and delegate work assignments for all supervised personnel;
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and providing appropriate training for database support staff;
  • Serve on appropriate planning and policy-making committees;
  • Identify emerging database technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the school infrastructure;
  • Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing database systems;
  • Assess new database technologies and the feasibility of system enhancements to determine potential value for the school;
  • Supervise the implementation and upgrade of all database products;
  • Serve as primary contact with database vendors in the generation of bids, contracts, agreements, and other major vendor interactions.
  • Generate reports and assist staff and departments with reporting and information gathering as requested;
  • Coordinate database information with the business office, admissions, advancement, division staff, the registrar, and the website manager;
  • Work closely with Director of Advancement to ensure that the data services team is effectively supporting fundraising operations;
  • Train and support all staff in using student information systems;
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of all academic reports including grade reports and transcripts;
  • Lead the student re-enrollment process and creation of new contracts each year.

Required Qualifications: (Skills, experience, education/certification, etc.)

The senior database administrator must possess a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of recent, related experience.  A graduate degree or technical certification is desirable.  Additionally, the senior database administrator must have significant experience in the field of database management and support.  It is necessary that he/she have relevant technical knowledge coupled with good management expertise.

Documented working experience with Blackbaud database products and Microsoft Windows and OSX environments, including Microsoft 365, Google Docs and other applications associated with K-12 education is a must as is knowledge of database maintenance, support and troubleshooting.
