OVERVIEW

The Senior Database Administrator/Analyst will oversee the installation, monitoring, management, support and security of all data sources, including the development and design of database strategies, and the planning of future data requirements. In addition, analyze, design, deliver amd implement analytics tools based on business requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Anticipates, consolidates and prioritizes data needs for the school;

  • Prepares databases for development/expansion, and coordinates design and programming;

  • Consults with IT management and staff to determine hardware/software upgrade requirements;

  • Installs and maintains new/revised databases and corresponding upgrades;

  • Collaborates with management to ensure that data models best serve the academic focus of the school;

  • Determines optimum database performance parameters, monitors and manages database to those standards, and troubleshoots problems;

  • Develops policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the security of databases;

  • Implements and ensures all changes required by government policy for the generation of school transcripts, report cards, and timetables;

  • Ensure security patches and updates to all systems within the infrastructure are in line with best practices;

  • Maintain a disaster recovery plan for database infrastructure and supporting applications;

  • Responsible for the extraction and analysis of complex information from a variety of databases;

  • Develop capabilities to identify areas of opportunity and improve processes and efficiency on reporting;

  • Develop, maintain and troubleshoot all key databases across all departments;

  • Troubleshoot issues related to data and analytics, including the management of ad-hoc reporting requests;

  • Other duties as required by the department and at the discretion of direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline;

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Database Administrator/Analyst;

  • Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders;

  • Demonstrated skill in communicating technical concepts at both high and deep levels;

  • Strong knowledge of visualization tools such as PowerBI;

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with a background in analyzing new requirements and assessing both business and technical impact;

  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills;

  • IT certifications such as Microsoft Azure or Microsoft SQL are asset.
