The Forman School (www.formanschool.org), a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school serving 215 students, seeks a Senior Information Technology Specialist. The school, founded in 1930 and located in Litchfield, CT, a beautiful New England village approximately a half hour outside of Hartford, serves bright students with language-based learning differences.

Position Description:
Assist the Director of Technology with the management, maintenance, and promotion productive usage of the School’s campus-wide data network and telecommunication systems in the support of the School's broader mission. Assist Director of Information Technology on all projects and planning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
As it relates to the school's data network, including but not limited to: 

  • Maintain all databases; Filemaker Pro, Senior Systems, Blackbaud, Magnus Health, etc.
  • Installation and maintenance of network infrastructure hardware including switches, routers, WAPs, management and security devices, and other equipment.
  • Assist with server hardware procurement, installation, and maintenance.
  • Network operating system installation, configuration, and problem resolution.
  • Routine network and server management including all NOS updates and patches.
  • Monitor daily backup of all critical network server data.
  •  Monitor network security and control as required by school policies and/or industry best practices.
  •  Installation and maintenance of network printing infrastructure.
  •  Assist in planning, development, and implementation of new network technologies and programs as directed.
  •  Work with the Director of Information Technology to assist with user development, training issues, and program development for faculty and students.
  •  Assist in the supervision over duties and progress of helpdesk staff members.
  •  Work with vendors in negotiating contracts for services and ongoing system support as directed.
  •  Manage and provide AV support and event preparation (as it relates to technology) for the schools growing presentation needs.
  •  Monitor and maintain surveillance camera systems as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on network systems and other equipment as needed.
  •  Create and manage user accounts for all systems.
  •  Maintenance and repair of campus data cabling including patch panels and data jacks.
  • Oversee outside vendor installation of new cabling and terminations.

As it relates to the school's telecommunication system, including but not limited to:

  • Maintenance and repair of campus telephone cabling including patch panels and telephone jacks. Oversee outside vendor installation of new cabling and terminations.
  • Perform all moves and changes to telephone service locations, and serve as the point of contact for any telephone related issues.
  • Maintain the voicemail system including all user accounts, changes, and serve as the point of contact for any related issues

As it relates to the school's database system, including but not limited to:
 

  • Monitor, administrate and implements performance improvements on database systems as well as database performance optimization, developing/changing database indices, redesigning database structure and reloading data into database.
  • Access and manipulates data using analytical tools as appropriate within the Forman School databases for multiple purposes, including but not limited to reporting, file transfer, and graphical presentation of data.
  • Under managerial direction assist in the development of database projects and applications to ensure the security and integrity of the Forman’s Schools databases.
  • Responsible for providing database support to Forman’s students, faculty, and staff.
  • Communicates changes in the structure and/or operation of school database information systems to end users and administrators.

Nature of Supervision Received and Exercised:
Reports to Director of Information Technology
Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • A+ and Network+ Certification.
  • 5 years experience.
  • Experience with Dell or Cisco Switches.
  • Must have working knowledge of Windows Server 2008 and 2012.
  • Must have a working knowledge of VMware.
  • Must have working knowledge of Mac OSX, Windows 7, and Windows 10.
  • Proven experience managing PC LAN environments in a business or academic setting.
  • Proven experience with helpdesk ticketing systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Educational Suite.
  • Excellent written and oral communications.
  • Must be able to lift 30-40lbs on a regular basis as the job pertains to the installation and maintenance of desktop workstations and associated hardware.
