This Professional & Scientific position will be filled as a Senior IT Director (PIM3) leading our Health Care Information Systems Technical Operations Division.  The successful candidate will divide their time between UIHC main campus in Iowa City and UIHC Support Services Building in Coralville.

Health Care Information Systems (HCIS): Provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research.

HCIS services University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff.

 

Position Summary:

Health Care Information Systems has an opening for a Senior IT Director, Technical Operations to provide leadership, strategic planning, operational support and decision making in an information technology rich environment. The key areas of responsibility include project or service, organizational and relationship management, business analysis and leadership, staff and resource management, and financial responsibility. 

Position Responsibilities: 

Duties include the direct the analysis, design, implementation and operational support of voice and data networks, computer servers, and digital storage systems for UI Health Care and where applicable across the University enterprise. To analyze, plan, prioritize, and direct teams of technical staff to deliver critical information system services to UI Health Care faculty, staff, students, customers and where applicable the University enterprise. Closely coordinate with other HCIS division leaders, customer leads and partner with ITS and OneIT leadership to ensure successful progress on key institutional initiatives.

Position Qualifications:

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS or an equivalent combination of education and related healthcare technology experience and technical certifications.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Experience (typically 10+ years) architecting and guiding the installation of mission-critical healthcare IT projects involving multi-disciplinary teams in a large academic medical center environment with considerable (3-5 years) administrative and management experience including budget and staff management.

  • Expert level knowledge of technology environments, including data networks, storage systems, application and file/print servers. 

  • Must be extremely organized, highly motivated self-starter with excellent attention to detail and excellent multi-tasking skills.

  • Expert level knowledge of industry trends and demonstrated experience applying new technology solutions to business and healthcare problems.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audience 

  • Experience creating and leading a customer service oriented team and developing initiatives to drive collaborative and service orientation skills throughout organization.

  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with change management, continuous improvement initiatives, ITIL, LEAN and project management

  • Experience in the development of standards and policies across functional specialties.

  • Experience with analysis, planning, estimating, budgeting and scheduling of high-risk, high-impact IT projects.  

  • Experience in succession planning and people development.
