York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an exceptional education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.   

Overview of Position
Reporting to the Director of Learning, Creativity and Innovation, the Senior School Program Coordinator, STEAM works closely with teachers in Science, Technology, Fine Arts and Math to support and facilitate excellence and consistency across Grade 8 to 12 interdisciplinary teaching and learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional and assessment practices, a passion for teaching and a strong understanding of how girls learn. This individual will also have an interest in pursuing where and how programming and STEAM initiatives can enrich student learning in and out of the classroom.

Teaching and Learning

  • Responsible for teaching in the Senior School as directed by the Director of Senior School;
  • Provide direct support to teachers as they implement and integrate science, mathematics, the fine arts and technology in the curriculum;
  • Excellent knowledge of the BC Curriculum and latest trends in educational research and pedagogy;
  • Experience using Understanding by Design as a framework to teach for deeper understanding;
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learners;
  • Experience and a passion for student-centered, project-based and inquiry-based learningFamiliarity with maker education, design thinking, and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in girls
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learning;Experience working with STEAM tools, e.g. SketchUP, Scratch, MineCraft, etc.;
  • Plan and facilitate workshops for teachers, parents and students as required;
  • Demonstrated passion for innovation and creativity in education.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the role of Teacher Advisor each day;
  • Teach Grades 9 & 11 Programming;
  • Co-Curricular participation is required;
  • Other supervision duties;
  • Other duties as assigned to support the implementation of the strategic priorities of the school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education with specialization in arts, sciences or technology;
  • Computing Science and/pre programming experience;
  • British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent;
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience (secondary experience is preferred);
  • Experience with robotics is an asset;
  • Three to five years experience in coordinating or leading is an asset.

A criminal record and vulnerable sector check is a requirement.
