Under the direction of the IT Manager for Technology Support, the IT Specialist for Security & Networking is responsible for IT security and off-campus network connectivity for the College of Agriculture, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, including eight academic departments on Auburn's campus and remote offices and research centers in all 67 Alabama counties. This professional will also assist the ACES-Ag IT Help Desk with providing on-campus and remote technical support as needed.

The IT Specialist will work both individually and in coordination with ACES-Ag IT team members to achieve objectives. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

1) Coordinate the implementation of IT security measures in compliance with Auburn University policies and standards;
2) Oversee IT security scanning and remediation;
3) Identify Internet service options available to remote offices and coordinate service changes, contracts, and billing with providers and appropriate campus offices;
4) Respond to Internet service outages by engaging service providers for necessary troubleshooting and repair;
5) Coordinate within ACES-Ag IT and with the AU Office of Information Technology as needed on security and networking issues including related hardware configuration and support;
6) Assist the ACES-Ag IT Help Desk in supporting end user computers and mobile devices.

The Information Technology Specialist also provides assistance, guidance, and recommendations to management and other colleagues. Work assignments may have externally imposed deadlines and may require some on-call work and occasional travel.  

Entry into the applicant pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of relevant experience in security, networking, hardware/software support, and mobile device support. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. The salary range for Level III is $35,000 - $58,400.

Level IV requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years of relevant experience in security, networking, hardware/software support, and mobile device support. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. The salary range for Level IV is $45,100 - $75,100.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The selected candidate must meet eligibility requirements for working in the U.S. by the employment date.

Candidates for this position must have experience and success working both in collaborative team environments and independently. This position requires strong written, and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must also be skilled at organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple concurrent tasks. Candidates must possess excellent analytical skills, demonstrated technical knowledge, and a strong customer-service attitude. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment.

The ability and desire to quickly learn and adapt to new technology is a key skill. Specific technical requirements are as follows: experience with Windows 7 and above, MacOS, Linux, iOS, and Android operating systems as well as the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with IT security protocols and best practices; and experience with various networking protocols and hardware, including configuring and troubleshooting both in person and remotely a variety of LAN solutions to connect remote sites to Auburn's network.

Desired qualifications include experience with the following: Microsoft Active Directory; Spirion software; vulnerability remediation; device encryption and two factor authentication; virus protection (Sophos); Aruba networking equipment and management software; Ubiquiti networking equipment such as switches, bridges, access points, and management software; CradlePoint routers and management software; Microsoft SharePoint; and PaperCut copier management software.

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and strong knowledge of and experience working the Land Grant University System are also desired.
