Department Summary

University Events follows university priorities to plan, support, and execute meetings, events, and programs on campus. A one-stop shop operation, University Events coordinates the efforts of support areas on behalf of event sponsors.

Position Summary

The Event Technology Consultant is the primary conduit for information and service regarding the Event Technology area of University Events. This entails handling all communication with Event Consultants to successfully execute technology setups and customer service needs for events. S/he has the primary responsibility for managing and supervising part time undergraduate, graduate and full time seasonal staff to provide customer service and support for event space audio/visual equipment across campus.

Essential Duties
  1. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates event technology staff responsible for audio/visual equipment setups, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. 

  2. Manages multiple projects focused on both the Event Technology unit, and the department revolving around process, staffing or service in order to maximize the benefits the unit can provide the campus.

  3. Oversees multiple campus inventories and performs biannual audits in order to sustain sufficient levels of resources to support events on campus and to ensure database accuracy. Evaluates technology equipment usage trends to recommend changes as well as make purchases from outside vendors to respond to those trends.

  4. Analyzes new event space, services or resources to examine the impact on the unit, department and campus. Creates and implements the necessary procedures and training involved in supporting and preserving the new space, service or technology resource as needed while considering safety of employees and guests.

  5. Uses independent judgement and discretion to make recommendations and ultimately implement change in the Event Technology unit of University Events to increase efficiency, improve quality of service, and motivate employees to achieve consistently high standards.

  6. Coordinates with various departments to ensure safe use of space and equipment and efficient timing for technology setup, equipment delivery and event coverage by event technology staff. 

  7. Provides development opportunities for student employees by establishing professional standards through formal interviews, evaluations, one‐on‐one meetings, and career and educational coaching.

  8. Responds to off hours and weekend questions related to the Event Technology unit of events on campus.

  9. All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s Degree.

  2. Experience with event technology, or related facility/equipment management.

  3. Experience supervising a part-time staff, including training, scheduling and delegating to others.

  4. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple projects.

  5. Good communication skills, flexibility and an understanding of the concepts of providing effective, customer‐oriented support services are essential.

  6. Flexibility and the ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master’s Degree in a related field

  2. Experience working in a higher education setting

  3. Basic knowledge of audio‐visual equipment as applicable to programs, meetings and events is preferred

Work Environment

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds.
