The Adelson Educational Campus, a K-12 independent school in Las Vegas, Nevada seeks a vibrant engineering teacher to serve as the Coordinator of our state-of-the-art Startup Incubator which is currently under construction.

This facility is a 5000-square-foot inventor’s workshop (also known as a makerspace or fablab) in which student teams will design, engineer, and code with expert mentors on carefully defined, yet flexibly solved, real world problems and projects. Typical project duration is 6-12 weeks, and students will work in the lab several hours weekly. Projects include robots; wearable/home electronics; visionary cities of the future; space and medical inventions; 3D-printed textiles for fashion; green technologies; architectural blueprints and models; and entertainment (dance, music) engineering productions.

The Incubator Coordinator reports to the Director of Educational Technology. Partner collaborative coaches (K-12 STEAM teachers) will team with the Incubator Coordinator to assist in mentoring and guiding the execution of projects. Partner technology and art teachers will also work side-by-side with the Incubator Coordinator – their focus will be instructing the development of mobile apps and websites; claymation and animation; and digital photography and video. The entire Startup Incubator team will work collaboratively and will enlist the help of expert mentors from local university departments and businesses in developing innovative projects for execution with Grades 4-12.

The ideal candidate will possess a mechanical engineering (or similar) degree, experience with electronics, and a basic level of computer programming (up to the high school level). This individual should be experienced in designing with basic CAD software and fabricating using everything from 3D printers to table saws; he or she should be skilled in building robots, soldering circuits and writing consumer-level (simple) code for projects with Arduinos. The candidate should love the open-ended challenge of helping tweens and teens carry design projects from concept to fruition, from an "idea-in-the-head" to a digital design to a physical prototype to a business/production model that could be pitched in a Shark Tank setting. The individual should be skilled at managing the timelines, materials, and personnel of multiple projects for a small school population.

Adelson Educational Campus would like to locate the right individual as soon as possible to participate in outfitting the Incubator during construction; begin instructional planning; and open the new facility. The Startup Incubator Coordinator will work a 12-month year (school year and summer camps) with four weeks vacation in addition to a generous school holiday schedule. The candidate must pass an extensive nationwide FBI background check as well as a pre-employment drug test. As this is our first year of operation, this individual would need to be available to perform planning and preparation during Summer 2016, prior to ribbon-cutting in August. Bachelor's degree in a STEM field required.
