The Madeira School is seeking a STEAM Specialist for the 2018-2019 school year. The successful candidate will support and achieve the School's mission and vision by effectively facilitating learning in student-centered college preparatory classrooms. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing an interdisciplinary approach to STEAM programming and working across academic departments. The Madeira STEAM program encourages students to engage in an iterative process of designing and creating, thereby developing skills in both problem solving and inquiry.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach, design and develop curriculum, support faculty, coordinate, align and provide vision for STEAM curricular activities in the context of the School's academic program
  • Plan and prepare innovative and rigorous instructional content
  • Develop curriculum that aligns with and extends STEAM initiatives
  • Have the content knowledge and personal flexibility to teach well a range of students
  • Work collaboratively with a team of faculty, colleagues, administrators and parents
  • Maintain accurate student records such as grades and comments and communicate such data in accordance with the Academic Calendar and School expectations
  • Perform all duties associated with advising
  • Know how girls learn and use this knowledge to guide instructional and curricular decisions; apply principles of mind, brain and education science when teaching, developing curriculum, and assessing student learning
  • Develop interdisciplinary projects and courses in collaboration with other members of the STEAM departments
  • Support and act in accordance with the school's mission and values

 

Requirements:

  • Teaching experience required
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • Ability to teach coding, robotics, design thinking, and digital technology
  • Experience in writing and designing curriculum a plus
  • Ability to demonstrate growth mindset, optimism, and belief that all students can learn required
  • Self-starter with the ability to innovate and think creatively about education
  • Ability to inspire students and encourage creative thinking
  • Ability to make contribution to the School outside one's academic department, including to activities program, residential program (periodic weeknight/weekend duties), and interdisciplinary offerings
  • Leadership ability in the use, adaptation, and introduction of a wide-array of technology as tools to support and deepen student learning and instruction
  • Be a practitioner of diversity, equity and inclusion
