S.T.E.M. Director Position Overview:

Reporting to the Principal, the S.T.E.M. Director is responsible for assisting in the development, planning, and implementation of S.T.E.M. programming and support within the school’s curriculum.  The S.T.E.M. Director is a part-time position, with some classroom and some educational support responsibilities.  The S.T.E.M. Director strives to create an environment where students can achieve to their highest potential, as measured by demonstrable academic gains in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.    

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Principal, your responsibilities will consist of the following:

  • Modeling of successful teacher practices:
    • Serve as a co-teacher for math and science classes on a grade-level rotational basis to be determined in consultation with the principal.
    • Oversee the development and enhancement of the S.T.E.M. curriculum for instructional programs and collaborate with teachers and administration in the development and maintenance of the S.T.E.M. curriculum.
  • Technology responsibilities
    • Oversee the use of Kindles for independent reading:
      • Maintain student roster of Kindles.
      • Issue Kindles at the start of the school year.
      • Collect Kindles at the end of the school year.
      • Update Kindles with new independent reading books as needed throughout the year.
    • Oversee the use of Chromebooks for classroom purposes:
      • Issue student logins at the start of the school year.
      • Oversee the schedule for weekly teacher sign-out of the laptop carts.
      • Oversee the maintenance of laptop carts; communicate maintenance needs to the Director of Operations as necessary.
    • Coordinate M.A.P. Testing:
      • Develop and maintain roster of students to be tested during fall, winter, and spring M.A.P. testing sessions.
      • Assist Principal in setting up and proctoring tests during each testing session.
      • Distribute testing data to faculty at the conclusion of each testing session.

Reporting to the President, your responsibilities will consist of the following:

  • Fulfillment of staffing responsibilities as outlined in the Nativity Personnel Manual.

 

You will also be expected to:

  • Participate in the Summer of Service orientation and Summer of Service (July 2018).
  • Follow the 2017-18 Academic Calendar (to be forwarded by July 2017).
  • Participate in staff orientation prior to start of school year – beginning on August 21 and running on all weekdays (8:30-5 p.m.) through August 25.
  • Assist in staffing and professional development responsibilities as outlined in the Nativity Faculty Handbook:
    • Attending and actively participating in weekly staff meetings.
    • Lead professional development sessions each quarter for teachers on a topic to be agreed upon in conjunction with Principal.
    • Participate in regular departmental meetings for science and math.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of classroom experience, preferably in middle school mathematics and/or science classes.
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in subject area preferred.
  • Openness to embracing and promoting the Jesuit mission and identity of Nativity School of Worcester.
  • Willingness to work with the at-risk population of Worcester.
  • Proficiency with the Spanish language preferred but not required.

 

Salary commensurate with experience.
