Job Description/Responsibilities
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Library and Information Services invites applications from dynamic, proactive, and service-oriented candidates for the position of STEM Librarian.
As a member of the Library faculty, this position participates in library governance activities, provides expertise regarding innovations and trends relating to the management of electronic resources, contributes to creative and scholarly research, and participates in campus-wide committees.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Reporting to the Interim Dean, the STEM Librarian will serve as a subject liaison librarian for the School of Engineering and for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaison to the School of Engineering and for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and STEM Center.

  • Direct support for teaching and learning through instruction/lab sessions, or workshops in traditional or online formats. 

  • Provides in-depth research consultations and assistance as requested.

  • Creates subject based information resources including LibGuides and open resource materials.

  • Collaborate with LIS and/or teaching faculty to support information literacy learning goals and research.

  • Provide reference services in all appropriate media, including individual and small group research consultation.

  • Participates in the selection of materials and resources in various formats to support both student learning and faculty teaching and research.

  • Engagement with users in areas of scholarly communication, including open access or e-Science.

All LIS faculty and staff are responsible for working collaboratively to achieve University and LIS goals and objectives.

Terms of Appointment
Assistant or Associate Professor, 12-month continuing contract, tenure-track position. To successfully achieve tenure, the successful candidate must demonstrate continued achievement in librarianship, scholarship and service in order to meet library and University criteria for tenure and promotion.

Salary
Minimum of $50,000. Negotiable dependent upon credentials and experience. We welcome early career librarians. Salary is dependent upon post-MLS experience and credentials. Excellent benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.L.S. or equivalent degree in information science from an American Library Association-accredited library/information school

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university in a core STEM field

  • Proven track record teaching information literacy classes, seminars, workshops, etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated work experience in an academic or research library

  • Knowledge and experience using statistical, reporting, or data graphing software such as Mathematica, MATLAB, SPSS, NVivo, SAS, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in the use of library/information technology
