OVERVIEW

The STEM Specialist position is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, dedicated individual to be a significant contributor to an outstanding faculty. It is a full-time, 10-month position. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, student-centered, success-oriented individual who embraces the mission of Charlotte Preparatory School and upholds the Four Pillars of Leadership - Respect, Integrity, Perseverance and Courage. The STEM Specialist will collaborate with teachers, students, parents, and the greater community to organize and promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics integration in the classroom and in school-wide programs. Additionally, the STEM Specialist will be responsible for teaching Lower School classes, K-4th. He or she will be responsible for establishing a positive, encouraging, appropriate relationship with students, parents, faculty, and community members. A love for STEM education combined with effective professional skills, a positive, team-centered personality, and a dedication to lifelong learning are all necessary for success at Charlotte Prep.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, prepare, and execute approximately ten school-wide and grade specific STEM events throughout the school year.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the core curriculum.
Conduct periodic meetings with teachers regarding STEM related curriculum.
Conduct periodic meetings with Science, Technology, and Math teachers.
Coordinate and lead Charlotte Prep in STEM related academic competitions (First Lego League, etc...)
Coordinate an 8th Grade STEM Internship Program (partner with UNCC, CPCC and others).
Teach K-4th grade STEM classes and coordinate STEM efforts with all teachers.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Education or STEM field from an accredited university required; Masters or other advanced degree preferred.
A valid teaching certificate for the state of North Carolina preferred but not required.
A minimum of three years teaching experience preferred but not required.
Experience working with STEM initiatives preferred and knowledge of current STEM initiatives, trends, and educational standards strongly preferred.
