This position is responsible for implementing the STEM program in grades 2-5 and collaborating with faculty in promoting interdisciplinary STEM activities into the core curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Experienced at planning and implementing integrated curricula
  • Experience with using technology to support teaching and learning
  • Committed to academic excellence and culturally responsive teaching
  • Open and motivated to work collaboratively
  • Understands child growth, development, and social needs
  • Possesses strong communication and organizational skills
  • Exhibits a strong commitment to working in a diverse, multi-cultural community

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver STEM instruction through project-based learning methods (i.e. Project Lead the Way).
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments aligned with curriculum goals and student learning.
  • Use technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Organize, develop, and coordinate STEM events and activities in collaboration with families and administration, such as Aurora’s Tinker Faire.
  • Coach teachers on STEM initiatives and best practices in the field of STEM.
  • Pioneer new initiatives in support of the STEM program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress.
  • Complete student progress reports for Grades 2-5.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with Aurora rules and disciplinary systems.
  • Share STEM events and activities with Marketing and Communications Director for distribution on social media.
  • Attend professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
  • Attend school-wide events and staff trainings:
    1. In-service days (August)
    2. Back-To-School Night (September)
    3. Tinker Faire (October)
    4. Information Day (November)
    5. First and last staff meetings (other staff meetings are optional)
    6. Scheduled staff in-service days, on days scheduled to teach STEM
  • Finding substitute teacher coverage when absent
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Assistant Head of School.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience.
