Windward School, a grade 7-12 college-preparatory independent day school in vibrant West Los Angeles, seeks a dynamic, skilled, and organized Student Technology Support Specialist (STSS) to join our talented team in our Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) in a full-time position. The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys interacting with teenagers and who will possess initiative and patience to work with students in a 1:1 environment. We are looking for someone with a strong service attitude, excellent organizational proficiency, the ability to thrive in a team environment, and possess adept technology skills. The STSS is overseen by the Educational Technology Coordinator and reports to the Center for Teaching and Learning Co-Directors and Director of Technology.

Windward’s CTL is a dynamic space that brings together the Windward community to exchange ideas, learn together, and grow.  Through the collective talents of faculty and administrators who are teachers, librarians, curriculum specialists, and instructional technology professionals, the CTL enriches teaching, learning, and thinking at Windward. The School’s strong Educational Technology Program offers students and faculty a 1:1 iPad environment in grades 7-10 and Choice of Device Program in grades 11-12.

This position will have a start date of July 1, 2017, for the 2017-18 academic year.

 Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for students with a wide range of technological needs with confidence, poise, and a customer service orientation. Be available to help during student free times such as before school, lunch, etc.
  • Clearly communicate technical information in a non-technical manner, including leading sessions during student orientation, and teaching students how to solve issues on their own.
  • Model the positive and ethical use of technology and resolve/mediate problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Work closely with the Educational Technology Coordinator and collaborate with the  Center of Teaching and Learning team to find ways to improve the student learning experience on campus.
  • Uphold a welcoming environment in the Center for Teaching and Learning and support the school’s mission as a college preparatory school of challenging each student to achieve academic excellence within a nurturing atmosphere.
  • Ensure the mobile device software and hardware operate smoothly on campus and in the classroom environment.
  • During summer, set up and configure iPads, deploy software for students using a device management system, configure various student accounts, and facilitate the distribution of devices.
  • Respond, identify, and resolve device failures and performance issues using standard procedures and established guidelines, including managing warranty claims for devices or accessories.
  • Assist in end of lease cycle procedures, collection, and management of devices, including maintaining an inventory of all peripherals relating to mobile equipment.
  • Manage and follow up on software/app requests from teachers and students.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a service environment, and demonstrated ability to be able to anticipate and answer questions and requests.
  • Willingness to keep abreast of changing technologies and to assume new responsibilities required by the introduction of new services and equipment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • The ideal candidate is organized, patient, flexible, and a strong communicator and collaborator.
  • Ability to work both independently and collegially and adapt to ongoing changes.
  • Must enjoy working with teens and professionals in a busy academic environment.
  • Technology expertise required:
  • Fluency with iPads: OS and apps
  • Working knowledge of current Mac and PC operating systems, modern browsers, extensions.
  • Working knowledge of Google Apps: Docs, Sheets, Forms

Technology expertise/experience desired:

  • Working knowledge of at least one Mobile device management platform
  • Familiarity with at least one Learning Management System (LMS) (Haiku a plus)
  • Ability to diagnose complex technological problems and identify common problem themes

Bachelor’s degree desirable.

Qualified applicants must have experience working with students in an engaging and active environment such as a summer camp, museum, or school.
