Under the general supervision of the Technical Director, the System Engineer Manager performs daily system/network administration duties for a diverse set of users and a broad set of networking technologies. Candidate will be end-user facing and requires experience with various OS, virtualization, and network platforms, such VMware 5.x/6.x, HP and Dell servers, Hitachi NAS, EMC/Dell SAN, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc. Candidate must be able to keep systems updated with patches and upgrades. Must have experience with various operating systems including Windows Server 2012, 2016, and Windows 10. Must be able to create documentation and diagrams for assigned area of responsibility. Must provide top tier troubleshooting and support for various systems and user issues. Must ensure that successful backups are performed as scheduled, and must perform any restores are necessary. Must provide systems expertise to respond to 24 x 7 issues and to meet service level expectations. Must possess the ability to prioritize tasks to meet managerial, department, and institutional needs.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage all installed systems and infrastructure.

  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, virtualization software, and system management tools.

  • Design and implement enterprise-class infrastructure solutions based on Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS, etc.)

  • Install, configure, test, and maintain new hardware systems (e.g. servers, storage arrays, etc).

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and management of security systems and redundant data backups.

  • Provide 3rd-level support for issues escalated from the service desk to accurately test, identify, repair, resolve, and document end-user technical issues.

  • Collaborate with other team members.

  • Take ownership of issues from end-to-end to reach a resolution for all appropriate requests and incidents.

  • Perform other projects or miscellaneous duties as requested or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with VMWare ESXi 5.x/6.x including updating hosts via VMWare Update Manager

  • Experience with storage technologies such as Hitachi SAN and Dell/EMC NAS

  • Experience with Solarwinds NPM

  • Experience managing GPO, Active Directory, Windows Deployment Services, Windows Server Update Services, Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS), and Systems Center Configuration Manager

  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP

  • Maintain software patches and upgrades on the OS and associated applications

  • Monitor Active Directory health and configuration

  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery software such as Veeam

  • Experience designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions

  • Experience with SSL/TLS

  • Experience with RHEL is a plus

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Good ability to create documentation

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Education Bachelor's degree in MIS, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field

  • Years of Experience Required Eight to ten years of industry standard Computer Science, Information Technology.
