Reporting to the school’s Director of Technology, the incumbent provides system-wide support of multi-user operating systems, hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of these systems; identifies alternatives for optimizing computer resources and makes recommendations; and manages the First Level help desk technician.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing overall IT and A/V day-to-day operations, including supervision of help desk ticket escalation, network and infrastructure health and equipment (classroom and end-user) management and maintenance
  • Provides timely technical assistance to Academic faculty and students; keeping them informed of incident progress, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages.
  • Performs information system upgrades to existing infrastructure.
  • Works collaboratively with users by responding to “helpdesk” requests.
  • Communicates with software/hardware vendors and/or accesses on-line technical support to obtain appropriate software fix/updates.
  • Documents server and network environment including diagrams, maps, standard processes and procedures.
  • Performs, monitors, and verifies backup practices to ensure regularity, data viability, and accuracy.
  • Supports MDM solution.
  • Assists Director of Technology with vendor negotiations.
  • Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.
  • Researches and recommends hardware and software for purchase and use.
  • Conducts technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current systems.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the network.

Education, Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess strong communication and training skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Experience in working with Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Working knowledge on Apple equipment MacOS and iOS devices. Utilizing MDM solution such as JAMF preferred
  • General knowledge of cloud computing - AWS.
  • Must be familiar with server technologies - VMware on SAN/NFS.
  • Working knowledge of storage protocols such as SAS, SATA, and iSCSI; and networking protocols such as TCP/IP, NFS, and AFP.
  • Experience in working in an educational environment preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
