From K – 12, technology is an integral part of learning. At Punahou School, the Information Technology (IT) department strives to create an environment where access to and support for digital information, tools, devices and rich learning opportunities are fully integrated throughout the K – grade 12 environment.  The IT team designs, builds, maintains and enhances technology for students and staff enabling them to effectively utilize current and emerging technologies as tools for effective learning.
 
The IT Systems Administrator will focus on the operations, administration, and maintenance of a broad array of systems and applications which include educational, business office administration, financial, control systems and security applications.  This position assists in supporting activities as an escalation point for other IT teams on projects and issues related to systems/applications, interfaces, database or operating systems. The IT Systems Administrator duties include: 
  • Communicate with vendors to ensure applications meet the needs of internal departments and customers
  • Work with end users to develop requirements and turn into designs working with relevant IT team members
  • Accesses, maintains, and develops system programs to ensure the controlled access, sharing and security of the Punahou School’s Information Systems and operations; This may include, but is not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), where confidential information related to the students’ medical, educational and financial information may be provided in electronic, written and verbal formats requiring a high level of confidentiality
  • Develop and document programs, scripts, and standard operating procedures pertaining to systems administration
  • Implement configuration changes with approval and in adherence to change control procedures
  • Provide thorough technical documentation including design documentation for assigned projects.  Follow standards for internal documentation of new or modified objects to facilitate future upgrades.  Create and document routine administrative procedures in the form of “runbooks”
  • Build, support and maintain Active Directory Group Policy Objects that are used to secure and configure the enterprise client-computing infrastructure
  • Work with security team to ensure compliance with both application implementation and ongoing operations
  • Work with helpdesk team to develop work instructions and troubleshooting guides
  • Apply security and other critical operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes on a routine basis during approved maintenance windows
  • Monitor systems and review event/application logs 
  • Able to work long hours as needed to support the organization
  • Performs on-call activities to troubleshoot issues and outages as needed for the environment and technologies

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM –4:00 PM   
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems strongly preferred
  • Relevant Microsoft MCSA/MCSE or VMWare VCA/VCP Certifications preferred
  • Five (5) years of professional Information Technology experience 
  • Three (3) years of information systems administration that include application installations, configuration, updating and optimization for enterprise systems and technologies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Active Directory design, configuration, and administration
  • Experience with group policies and distributed file systems
  • Working knowledge of Certificate Authorities
  • Proficient in PowerShell, Python or JavaScript to automate and test/audit systems
  • Understands protocols such as SSL/TLS, CIFS, HTTP/S, DHCP, SMTP, NFS, SNMP and DNS for the purposes of troubleshooting is required
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Strong background in Windows, Mac and Linux system implementation and administration.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server or MySQL
  • MS office 365 and G Suite administration experience
  • General knowledge of data center infrastructure, servers, storage, VMWare, firewall functionality
  • Understanding and experience with information systems architecture
  • Experience working in information technology in school environments
  • General knowledge of software version control concepts, software build/deployment concepts
  • Experience with Microsoft IIS, JBoss, WebLogic or other application servers
