Position Description:

The Systems Administrator's role is to plan and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computers and systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's IT assets and systems. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing systems and software. In addition, the Systems Administrator will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of appropriate hardware and software.  Thorough documentation of processes, system errors, and network diagramming are a must.  The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have effective communication skills to coordinate projects within the tech department and outside of it as well. As part of the technology department, we expect the person to help others or help during particularly busy parts of the year with laptop deployment, training, and other tasks as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with Directors of Technology and Information Resources to assess near and long- systems needs and design and implement strategic plans to meet existing and future requirements
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system operations and organization
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system administration, usage, and disaster recovery
  • Evaluate the existing systems and advise on IT roadmaps with operational staff

 

 

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments
  • Where necessary, liaise with equipment vendors during installations and hardware performance issues

 

Operational Management

  • Establish, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Manage, maintain Active Directory, and Azure AD in a hybrid environment
  • Provide Tier II/III support acting as escalation point for Tier 1 help desk
  • Work closely with Service Desk as an escalation point in a Windows environment; Provide after hours on call support
  • Monitor the remote monitoring and management system alerts and notifications and respond accordingly through service tickets

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • 3+ years of Active Directory experience and cloud hybrid configurations
  • Experience managing cloud technology including but not limited to O365, Exchange Online, Azure,
  • Microsoft certifications such as A+, N+, Security+, MCSA, MCSE, and/or Azure are a plus
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting to manage Windows AD, Exchange Online and Azure cloud cloud environment
  • The use of Microsoft Automate and PowerBi for automation and data driven reporting would be a plus. 
  • Excellent technical knowledge of current systems hardware, software, and protocols including:
  • Systems OS (Windows, Mac, Linux), Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Informacast, Singlewire,Papercut
  • Knowledge of access controls, data privacy practices and laws.
  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to create and maintain thorough technical documentation.

 

Training:

  • Participate in all requisite School trainings prior to the start of the school, and throughout the School year
  • Attend required staff development and training sessions throughout the year
  • Attend periodic in-service meetings
  • Acknowledge receipt of the current Employee Handbook and are responsible for reviewing the contents and abiding by rules, policies and procedures stated in the Handbook or otherwise by the School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard office conditions and climate
  • Regularly uses close vision working at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Works at a desk for extended periods of time and occasionally moves around campus
  • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 50 lbs. across the campus/office
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and other computer components
  • Frequently works in a stressful environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, and flexibility to provide on-call support for emergency issues
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members
