Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a system administrator to join our technology team.  Reporting to the Director of Technology, this position is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise server and data systems. The system administrator serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems and databases, recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications, investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Additionally, the system administrator troubleshoots technical problems in areas of responsibility.  This is a full time (1.0 FTE) full year exempt appointment beginning as soon as possible. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources

  • Configure, manage and troubleshoot the school’s email, calendaring and hosted Exchange services through Microsoft’s Office 365

  • Setup, configure, manage and troubleshoot the school’s various Microsoft Windows servers, including Domain Controller, SQL server, print server, web server (IIS), file server and VMWare virtual servers

  • Setup, configure and manage effective backup systems for all school-related data

  • Oversee the synchronization of data between multiple applications and databases, including Veracross, SQL server, Finalsite, and Google Apps for Education

  • Manage user accounts, creates and monitors system services and processes, provides capacity planning and performance management for multiple systems from different vendors

  • Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system)

  • Provide direction to and collaborate with network manager/security officer

  • Backup network manager/security officer as needed

Requirements and Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Extensive experience managing enterprise communications, preferably Office 365

  • Experience synchronizing enterprise systems data with 3rd party and SQL data

  • Extensive experience finding and writing scripts to manage enterprise data, preferably with using Powershell to manage Office 365, Active Directory, SQL

  • Expert knowledge of Windows server and domain management, including Active Directory and VMWare architectures

  • Expert SQL skills, including experience managing Microsoft SQL server, effective use of stored procedures, and scripting data import and export

  • Extensive experience moving data between disparate data stores using a variety of scripting tools. Experience using published API’s to export and import data

  • Experience synchronizing user accounts between multiple systems. Current school systems include Active Directory, Office 365, Haiku, Google Apps for Education, Veracross, and Follet Destiny

  • Experience with school information management systems, Veracross preferred

  • Knowledge of and experience with cloud based digital services and communication systems, preferably Azure Active Directory

  • Preferred: Knowledge of and experience with Google Apps for Education (GAFE), Google Apps Active Directory Sync (GAADS), Google Apps Password Sync (GAPS)

  • Preferred: Knowledge of .NET/C# web application development

Education and Certifications

  • Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree preferred

  • Microsoft MCSE certification preferred

  • CISCO or other equivalent network computing certification preferred

Physical and Environmental Requirements and Factors

  • Lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds with and without assistance (objects will sometimes be elevated from floor level to above the shoulders)

  • Potentially bend, crouch, and maneuver body under desks and/or office equipment

  • Move quickly from the Upper School campus to the Middle School campus

  • May be exposed to high computer related noise levels, paper and equipment generated dust

  • Use of cleaning fluids and other materials for cleaning equipment

  • Works with electric, electronic and mechanical equipment

  • Exposure to computer screen occurs on a regular basis

  • Prolonged sitting for up to 8 hours per day

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends as needed to complete tasks and solve problems
