General Information

The Computer Science Department in the College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE) at James Madison University is seeking applicants for a Systems Administrator and Computing Lab Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the Computer Science Department, this individual will support all computer system use and applications for the department, including student labs, and work with units across JMU. Overall responsibilities include Linux and VMware vSphere administration.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a background in Linux server and desktop (such as Ubuntu/Mint/Debian) administration, scripting/automation, be a fast learner, and be willing to try new things and make them work. Desired skills in following areas: cloud administration, server and desktop virtualization (such as VMware and VirtualBox), desktop Linux support, network file systems (primarily NFS), networking and network security protocols (such as LDAP and Kerberos), multiplatform backups, and Dell/Equallogic iSCSI storage. Candidates with demonstrable experience in these areas will be given top consideration. A demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and support, and a capability to work within a multidisciplinary environment and to automate tasks is highly valued. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent is required, with a master’s degree or equivalent post-undergraduate experience preferred.
