Position Summary

The Systems Manager serves as a member of the Administrative Staff in the Office of Records and Registration. The primary functions of this position are: responsibility and administration for the Banner Student System or ERP alternative, data integrity, supervision of technical processes and personnel; including technical support and improvements, beginning/end of term processing, report management, testing and review of system updates, academic calendar, and web/social networking sites for the Office of Records and Registration. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Learn and manage all aspects of the Banner Student System in order to support registration, records maintenance, beginning and end of term processing, degree works/audit, trouble shooting and reporting; 

  • Consult with Registrar to determine and implement upgrades and testing as needed;

  • Support systems and processes for class scheduling, document imaging, and other software as needed;

  • Maintain the graduation workflow application and the change of major/minor form on-line and other graduation processes as needed;

  • Support online transcript logistics, including transcript distributing systems, I.E. Parchment and maintaining trading partners for EDI;

  • Maintain the Office of Records and Registration intranet and coordinate student system related security requests for the Campus;

  • Provide support to UA Little Rock departments with Banner (Student System) related challenges;

  • Serve as Records and Registration liaison with the UA Little Rock Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) for identifying system issues and development of enhancements to support new initiatives and to maintain the queue for student projects with ITS;

  • Supervise the Assistant Systems Manager and Technical Assistant, while providing technical support to Scheduling Coordinator, TCA Team and other staff members as needed;

  • Develop, create and analyze various reports as necessary and/or directed by the Registrar, Provost and AVC/VC’s;

  • Create and maintain student data blocks and reporting in Argos; 

  • Assist the Office of Institutional Research with student data as requested;

  • Support the submission of enrollment and graduation reports to the National Student Clearinghouse each semester according to established schedule, while adhering to deadlines;

  • Participate as directed in regularly scheduled and ad hoc committee meetings, including task force meetings such as Banner Users Group, etc.;

  • Research and recommend appropriate software purchases, while developing a hardware/software technology inventory and replacement schedule for the Office of Records and Registration;

  • Work as directed with commencement ceremonies;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical knowledge of student records;

  • Knowledge of the Banner system or similar ERP to guide and support implementation into new ERP system;

  • Experience with Access, Excel, Argos, SQL and Banner or similar ERP;

  • Knowledge of FERPA and UA Little Rock policies and procedures;

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, while handling various priorities in a multifaceted environment while successfully resolving unforeseen challenges;

  • Demonstrated skill in documentation of technical/business processes and experience with designing and communicating work flows to non-technical end users;

  • Ability to effectively organize, assemble and arrange resources to meet departmental goals and deadlines;

  • Ability to make accurate predictions about future trends, directions and developments in technology and higher education;

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include some evenings and weekends for commencement and other campus events.

Required Education and/or Experience

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; Demonstrated skill in using SQL programming language and knowledge and understanding of current trends and developments in information technology; Ability to effectively organize, assemble and arrange resources to meet departmental goals and deadlines.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

Demonstrated ability to successfully adapt to changes in technology, processes and procedures. Experience in higher education and BANNERknowledge (or ERP alternative) are preferred.
