Our Mission is to inspire and develop courageous leaders who think independently, work collaboratively, learn joyfully, and champion change.

SGS is offering a unique opportunity for a flexible, creative, and talented teacher to join our faculty for one year! We seek a full-time teacher starting August 2018. The classes this position teaches depend on the particular skills of the right candidate, within the fields of math (6th/7th grade), computer science, and STEAM. We are especially interested in candidates who are excited to work across disciplines, and to learn alongside students and colleagues and try new things. At Seattle Girls’ School, we use an experiential, joy-filled, inquiry-based approach. We integrate curriculum so that it is project-based, inquiry-based and hands-on. We seek teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and love learning and doing alongside middle school girls. Teachers work collaboratively to write original curriculum (no textbooks here!) and integrate anti-bias work into everything they do.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach in one or more grade levels - within the fields of math (6th/7th grade), computer science, and STEAM.

  • Serve as academic advisor to a group of approximately ten students.

  • Participate in a grade team, collaborating with grade level teachers to support logistics, including scheduling, events, trips (including a multi-day camp trip), and students concerns.

  • Model a growth mindset by learning alongside students and colleagues.

  • Provide a safe and active environment that will benefit each SGS student.

  • Beyond your curricular responsibilities, actively engage around the larger mission of SGS, to develop girls’ leadership and understanding of social justice.

  • Provide meaningful ongoing assessment and feedback to support student growth, and partner effectively with families.

  • Other duties as needed.

  • B.A./B.S. is required.

  • WA State Teaching Certification, or Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience instructing students in a classroom setting is preferred.

  • A growth mindset around technology.

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefit package commensurate with experience.
