Basic Function

Reporting to the Director of the Program Management Office, the Project Manager will manage and/or assist in managing multiple projects initiated from all business functional areas at WPI. Plan and execute project efforts related to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transformation. Contribute to the creation and evolution of the new Program Management Office and its offerings. Guide project teams through good project management processes and practices from project pre-inception through closure with effective transition to support. Manage coordinated, integrated releases of functionality as necessary. Build enduring and effective relationships with all stakeholders. Help position WPI to execute programs that support the strategic plan goals. Facilitate the effective management of project risk. Provide project and program management support for high-risk/high-visibility initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Identify, define, document, and lead new and existing medium to large-sized projects for multiple WPI functional areas.

Coordinate with in-house, consultant, and other team members to successfully implement a new Enterprise Resource Planning infrastructure (ERP) here at WPI.

Produce project status communications to all levels of project management.

Support the movement of new and changed projects through IT and master program governance.

Principal Duty and Responsibility

Provide decision support management including change and risks management.

Principal Duty and Responsibility

Contribute to the growing body of WPI Program Management Organization knowledge including tools and practices that can be used by functional area project managers.

Identify, document, assess, and mitigate program or program environment risks including but not limited to: budget, personnel, training, and competing priorities including other efforts in the portfolio.

Develop and execute communication plans in partnership with other internal communicators in order to properly engage all stakeholders.

Exercise good project management practices and processes in support of consistent project outcomes. Employ the right level of process control at the right time (just-right project management).

Position Requirements

 

Requirement

Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant project management experience or at least 10 years of project management experience.

Requirement

Strong, working knowledge of standard and advanced project management practices.

Requirement

Strong, working understanding of standard higher education business practices.

Requirement

Demonstrated ability to think critically and modify approaches based on input from all constituents.

Requirement

Ability to transform high-level and incomplete information into structured business and IT action plans.

Requirement

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirement

Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and effectively.

Requirement

Ability to work with a large, diverse team across a matrixed organization.

Requirement

Experience in justifying and initiating projects and programs (includes budgeting, and timeline development).

Requirement

Exquisite, effective verbal and written communication skills.

Requirement

Experience implementing complete Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g. Workday, Oracle/Peoplesoft, Banner, etc.).

Requirement

Experience working with c-level management preferred.

Requirement

PMP certification preferred.

Requirement

Demonstrated experience in giving back to the profession of Project Management preferred.
