Job Description

Full-time, Tenure-Track, Technical Services Librarian, 9 month position with the possibility of additional summer work, beginning fall 2018.

Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversee all aspects of technical services including resource acquisition, cataloging, and metadata management to ensure online and print collections are efficiently acquired, easily accessible, and readily discoverable. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania is one of 14 schools in the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education {PASSHE} that share the same Library Services Platform, Ex Libris’ Alma. Experience with Alma is preferred. The Technical Services Librarian must possess an awareness of current practices, standards, research, and trends in cataloging/metadata management, e-resources, serials, acquisitions, and information technology. The candidate must have demonstrated successful professional experience and the ability to coordinate the activities of others in a library technical services environment. The Technical Services Librarian will also provide face-to-face and virtual reference services, and perform liaison activities including collection development and bibliographic instruction in assigned subject areas. Academic library experience is preferred. As a tenure-track position, fulfillment of academic responsibilities includes participation in department, campus, and systems wide committees. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to be a successful problem-solver. Master’s degree in library science or library & information science from an ALAaccredited institution is required. Second master’s degree or doctorate required for tenure.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work with culturally diverse library patrons and as part of a team. Academic library experience preferred.

Specific Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee acquisitions, cataloging and metadata services to ensure online and print collections are efficiently acquired, easily accessible and readily discoverable.
  • Participate in university-wide and departmental committees, provide face-to-face and virtual reference services, and perform liaison activities including collection development and bibliographic instruction in assigned subject areas.
  • Participate in the administration of Ex Libris Alma library services platform (LSP).
  • Generate reports which lead to data-driven decisions that support, enhance and expand information discovery and retrieval.
  • Work collaboratively with peer institutions, vendors and consortial groups.
  • Work collaboratively with library faculty and staff and provide leadership in technical services.
  • Other professional duties as assigned by the Associate Provost for Library and Curriculum.
