Riverdale Country School is a Pre-K through grade 12 independent school in New York City committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good. Riverdale seeks to reflect the diversity of the New York metropolitan area in its students, faculty, and staff. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) is the foundational core of the anti-racist, anti-bias, and transformational work that Riverdale is doing to help students, faculty/staff, families, and alumni feel seen, heard, and valued. The school enrolls about 1,200 students who collectively reside in 104 different zip codes. Approximately 43% of our student body are students of color.

We seek to employ people who engage in all aspects of work with a student-centered approach, an open mind, passion, and a willingness to support the greater community. At Riverdale, we recognize that the work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is iterative and requires a consistent commitment. Ideal candidates display that commitment in their work and in their approach to teaching and learning.

As the world faces the immense challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, Riverdale Country School continues to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of its community members. On both of our campuses, all individuals are required to wear masks indoors at all times except when eating.  On the River Campus, where our youngest students learn, we also require masks outdoors. We currently provide free ongoing COVID-19 testing for all employees and also require students to be tested regularly. We have required COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations for all of our employees and eligible students.  We are fortunate to have large campuses where we can maximize the use of outdoor spaces. These elements have allowed us to maintain a rich learning experience for students throughout the pandemic.

The Support Specialist is a core member of our all-school technology team and reports to the Director of Technology. This full-time, 12-month position is available immediately and is based at our Hill campus (Middle & Upper School), but includes responsibilities that extend to the River Campus (Lower School).

The Support Specialist is a helpdesk-based first responder who springs into action when technology issues interfere with school operations. You will work in a high-functioning and collegial Technology Department in which individuals contribute positively to its collaborative culture. We expect you to say “I’m not sure, I’ll find out who we should talk to” or “Let’s make sure I understand this..." as needed while working in our community. We hope you are a self-starter that sees problems, proposes solutions, and is eager to learn new things.

Your responsibilities will generally involve typical Level 1 and Level 2 helpdesk tasks including:

  • maintaining and fixing classroom A/V equipment;
  • handling and purchasing Technology Department inventory;
  • replenishing and repairing our fleet of printers and copiers;
  • solving problems, repairing and imaging school-owned devices;
  • ensuring our loaner pool is in great shape and ready for action;
  • staffing our helpdesk while providing impeccable customer service;
  • climbing 6’ ladders;
  • carrying 15-35lb. objects.

Two or more years of professional helpdesk or similar experience is required. Also highly valued are:

  • excellent people skills;
  • strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • a detail-oriented, organized approach to work;
  • a fantastic memory or system to replicate one;
  • the ability to speak in Spanish in addition to English;
  • and grace in thorny situations.

How to Apply

There are many opportunities to interact with the community beyond these key responsibilities and we value those who wish to immerse themselves in our community. We seek a candidate with a strong appreciation for the role of technology in learning and as a foundational component of school operations. We strongly encourage employees’ pursuit of professional development; this position has flexibility and opportunity for growth. Riverdale actively seeks diversity in its employees.
