Technology Business Advisor
Summary of Duties |
Responsible for delivering no-cost impact-driven advising and training that result in directly assisting both technology and non-technology based companies and entrepreneurs to succeed in their business growth and commercializing activities. Position provides in-depth advising assistance to technology and non-technology based businesses, entrepreneurs, and university researchers interested in establishing or expanding their technology commercialization venture, when appropriate. Specific targeted industries include aerospace, value-add agriculture, clean energy, information and communication technology, life sciences and global health as well as others as defined by the State Director. Advising clients in the evaluation of new technologies, formation or development of small to medium sized growth based; and providing guidance to obtain complex debt capital and equity investment; SBIR/STTR grant knowledge, application and assisting with the identification and evaluation of business challenges and opportunities. The position also provides assistance and guidance in developing commercialization plans and operating plans for marketing and manufacturing; management and financial proposals. The position also requires the development of program operational plans designed to attract growth and development technology and growth oriented clients; coordinating marketing efforts to enhance awareness of and access to WSBDC and partner programs; and performing research; data compilation and budget analysis for use in managerial decision making and new project considerations.

Required Qualifications |
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of experience in business ownership, business management, program development, and/or the functional specialty area. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. |

Additional Requirements |
-Functional Specialty: Experience in any or all of the following: commercializing new technologies, technology start-ups, university based technology transfer and commercialization, venture capital/angel groups, technology accelerators/incubators or closely related information technology experience. -Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license. -The successful candidate must complete SBDC certification within six months after being hired or be making satisfactory progress toward completion, as determined by the SBDC’s Certification and Professional Development Committee. Upon successful completion the candidate will be designated a Certified Business Advisor (CBA). CBAs will be expected to pursue on-going professional development and continuing education to maintain their certification. |
Preferred Qualifications |
