Job Summary:

BB&N is seeking full-time Technology Integration and MakerSpace Mentor for a one-year position. This position supports lower school teachers in integrating technology into their curriculum and coordinates the use of our makerspace. This is accomplished by building collaborative relationships with teachers, understanding their curricular goals, and supporting their efforts at increasingly powerful uses of technology for student-centered learning. We seek an educator focused on continuous improvement who has a contagious enthusiasm for supporting the use of technology in interdisciplinary, and inquiry-based learning. This is a full-time 11 month position reporting to the director of information technology. This is a one year appointment, with the possibility of renewal. Our lower school technology team also includes a technology teacher of grades 3-5 and a collaborating science teacher.

 

Technology Integration & Makerspace Mentoring Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in developing and delivering educationally impactful technology projects.

  • Serve as a catalyst, coach and collaborator to bring teachers’ innovative ideas into reality.

  • Manage our makerspace, including the upkeep of supplies, tools, and scheduling.

  • Operate and help others safely operate our makerspace tools including the laser cutter, 3D printers, robotics kits, electronics, vinyl cutter, hand tools, power tools, etc.

  • Teach lessons and classes as needed, including a 6th grade technology class 3 periods/week.

  • Nurture student skills in design thinking, logical thinking, and digital multimedia tools.

  • Help teachers use ISTE NETS standards to assess students’ technology proficiency.

  • Demonstrate a consistent pattern of outreach and support of teachers and grade level teams in improving their own technology proficiencies and goals.

  • Support teachers in developing and improving their class websites for instructional purposes.

  • Seek out and sustain connections to local technology resources, organizations, and institutions.

  • Communicate BB&N’s vision for effective technology integration to the faculty and parents through email, blogging, websites, and presentations.

  • Create extra-curricular opportunities for student engagement, such as after school programs.

 

Technology Support Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers and students with common technology-related questions and problems.

  • Assist with audio-visual support needs of campus events.

  • Help manage the upkeep of various laptop and iPad carts, and peripheral equipment, including deployment and imaging prior to the school year, and collection after school year ends.

  • Manage student computer accounts, and perform password-resets as needed.

  • Assist and support the FileMaker report-card database process by teachers.

  • Assist parents with school-related technology questions or concerns as needed.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in education, or equivalent experience.

  • Classroom teaching experience, especially at the elementary level.

  • Significant experience supporting technology resources in an educational setting.

  • Background in design thinking protocols and/or STEM/STEAM.

  • Experience with makerspace tools including laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.

  • Experience collaborating with teachers to improve instruction and integrate technology.

  • Experience with Mac and iOS, Google Apps, class websites, AV equipment and peripherals.

  • Ability to articulate a compelling, energetic, and compassionate vision for technology use.

  • Excellent communication and organization skills: written, oral, and listening.

  • Collaborative, flexible, responsible working style, pitching in to do whatever needs to be done.

  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
