York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an outstanding education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Technology and Innovation, the Technology Manager manages technology employees, provides support for the senior leadership team, implements strategic priorities, and provides input to develop and implement an information technology plan that meets current and future needs of a dynamic 21st century learning environment and school operations. The Technology Manager is responsible for managing the members of the technology integration team, and for providing appropriate training and implementing appropriate solutions to enhance the use of technology for educational purposes. This position works with every department in the school. This individual will work with the senior leadership team, department heads, teachers and others to implement the York House technology plan.
Responsibilities
  • Manage technology integration employees, IT Co-op Student, Education Technology Coordinator, AV Technical Support Specialist, and any other technology staff as assigned, which includes participating in recruiting, providing training, coaching, and performance management including disciplining and performance reviews
  • Evaluate and observe classes of teachers performing technology classes and the Education Technology Coordinator’s workshops or presentations
  • Member of the technology planning committee (from JK to grade 12 with other members of the technology department)
  • Identify and/or help develop resource people in each discipline who can provide leadership to their groups to implement the school’s technology plan
  • Work with Education Technology Coordinator and Tech Support to efficiently implement the technology plan (developed by Director of Technology and Innovation) with all stakeholders and provide high standards of support and effective operations
  • Stay current with latest trends, teaching strategies and research with respect to technology in the classroom Kindergarten to Grade 12
  • Assess skill level of current staff and students with respect to technology and recommend appropriate training based on areas identified
  • Provide and develop learning resources for faculty and students. This may include tutorials, manuals, websites and other interactive programs
  • Organize and lead training sessions for technology professional development
  • Work with database administrators of a variety of departments to maintain the integrity of the school’s information. Support stakeholders who use Blackbaud school operations software (report cards, transcripts, parent/teacher interviews, admissions, and timetabling software)
  • Confidential access and support to users of Admission database, Advancement database Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge software
  • Communicate with wider community on issues of technology literacy, following plan developed by Director of Technology and Innovation and the Assistant Head of Learning, Creativity and Innovation
  • Working with the Director of Technology and Innovation, review and provide input to policies for technology use for staff and students. Ensure that users supported are following the acceptable use policy
  • Participate in developing budgets for academic and administrative software, hardware, and services
  • Provide oversight to operations of the theatre and other specialized areas of the school, and develop systems, policies, procedures, and training for the operation of these facilities
  • Oversee the student technology club
  • Teach technology classes as assigned 
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree/diploma in computer science or related area of study 
  • At least four years related work experience
  • Strong managerial skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques and curriculum
  • Ability to stay current and research new instructional technologies 
  • Strong technology skills in up-to-date computer software, including student information and learning management systems (preferably Blackbaud), Google Apps, Raiser’s Edge, digital video and editing, image processing, internet streaming, Mac environment, etc.
  • Experience using SmartBoard, iPad, laptop applications, sound and lighting systems
  • Strong project management skills
  • Previous Experience in leadership roles and supervision of technology teams up to 5 
  • Independent school experience an asset
  • BC Teachers certification or equivalent
