Reporting to the Dean of Library and Information Services, the Technology Librarian is a tenure-track library faculty member responsible for providing expertise in digital library applications, web presence, and digital initiative projects. The Technology Librarian works as a team member with the Metadata Librarian and Web Specialist and other LIS faculty and participates in achieving departmental and library goals.

Duties include:

  • Works in team environments to develop and implement new and enhanced digital library services that emphasize usability and enhance the digital delivery of library services and collections through the adoption of new technologies;
  • Assists in the design, development and maintenance of the library’s website, including conducting usability studies;
  • Participates in assembling, distributing, and analyzing site and digital resource analytics; teaches digital technology for LIS faculty and staff and encourages integration of technology into the library’s physical and virtual presence;
  • As part of a team, makes recommendations for policies and procedures related to online content creation and design;
  • Serves as the LIS liaison to SIUE’s Information Technology Services department;
  • Participates in writing proposals and securing grants;

Library and Information Services faculty and staff function as a team always striving to achieve University and LIS goals and objectives, and to engage students and faculty in the use of information resources and technology. In partnerships with other academic units, Library and Information Services teaches information literacy skills and discernment needed for lifelong learning. Library faculty take the lead in collaboration in scholarly publishing for open access.

Terms of Appointment
Assistant or Associate Professor, full-time, 12-month continuing contract, tenure-track position. To successfully achieve tenure, the successful candidate must demonstrate continued achievement in librarianship, scholarship and service in order to meet library and University criteria for tenure and promotion.

Salary
Competitive and determined by evaluating credentials and qualifications, minimum of $50,000. Salary is negotiable dependent upon credentials and experience. Excellent fringe benefits. We welcome early career librarians.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.L.S. or equivalent degree in information science from an A.L.A. accredited library school
  • Experience with discovery tools, website development, open source programming, and database management systems (such as MySQL)
  • Demonstrated project management and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in a production-oriented environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a strong service orientation
  • Professional commitment to librarianship and the ability to meet LIS and University standards in librarianship, scholarship, and professional service in fulfillment of tenure requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the trends and issues in academic libraries including emerging technologies
  • Familiarity with library specific information systems and technologi8es (such as integrated library systems, digital repositories, OpenURL, etc.)
  • Experience working with collaborative cross-departmental project teams
  • Experience or aptitude in graphic design and development for mobile devices
