The Technology Manager will be responsible for several key areas, including: Database Management, Technology Management and Software Application Support and Training. The manager will serve as the professional liaison between Park Street School (PSS) and any outside vendors for the school’s technology needs. They will also play a vital role in supporting the continued enhancement of PSS’s educational technology plan.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT

The Technology Manager will work with staff and faculty to maximize both the compatibility and effectiveness of the School’s Information Management Software (currently Veracross), to ensure that the best quality, fit and satisfaction of the PSS community is being met. The Manager will serve as the main contact between PSS and the SMS vendor and should have a solid understanding of how the software works and its main components.

Under general supervision, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, the manager will engage in planning, designing, configuring, installing, testing, troubleshooting, integrating, performance monitoring, maintaining, enhancing, security management, and support of the school’s databases.

The Manager should have a strong balance of business skills, technical aptitude, patience and exceptional communication skills to support the end users of the school’s databases. Establishes systems and routines to safeguard the security of technology systems, and to back-up information (both on-site and off-site).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Technology Manager will:

  • Oversee the computer network with the aim of supporting both education and business technologies while ensuring the safety and security of the infrastructure and information

  • Maintain hardware and software inventories including licensing and securing of software media

  • Actively participate in leading, supporting, training, and assisting staff and faculty in utilizing a variety of hardware and software

  • Maintain the school’s technology infrastructure, including the school-wide local area network, Internet, and computer

  • Work with Administration to develop and achieve annual strategic goals

  • Establishes and enforces end-user policies, procedures and standards for use and acquisition of technology (i.e., internet policy, network usage, security control)

  • Assess and report on all aspects of technology related to educational goals of the school

  • Develop and follow a school Technology Plan, Acceptable Use Policy, copyright laws, and technology guidelines

  • Create and maintains online and printed help sheets for a variety of software and hardware

OVERSEE

  • Computers (Windows and Macintosh operating system), printers, and other computer-related peripherals

  • Servers (Windows), wireless access points, switches, firewall, and all other equipment and services that relate to the network

  • Telephone system and its components (in conjunction with third-party support)

  • Alarm/Security System and its components

  • Copy/Printer leases and maintenance

  • Website hosting and updates (in conjunction with the Communications Coordinator) 

  • Email and calendaring service with Google AppsSoftware updates and licensing (e.g., latest version of MS Office)

  • Coordinate and conduct an overall training curriculum including both individual and group classroom training in the use of SIS/SMS, MS Office Suite, and other software as generally used by PSS

  • Support the marketing process by providing implementation of technical requirements for Internet marketing and search engine optimization. 

  • Integrate use of the school’s web site and Office 360 Portal consistent with the school’s educational mission

  • Management of Aerohive AP’s throughout three sites (Preschool, Kindergarten, Lower School)

  • Active Directory management of users, groups and permissions

  • Knowledge of JAMF, iPad rollout, O365 and Google Apps

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

The Technology Manager will collaborate with Admin on the Educational Technology Plan in:

  • Identifying and proposing emerging technologies for use in curriculum, assessment and evaluation

  • Help define and develop the role of technology and information literacy in the classroom as it promotes and supports the mission of PSS

  • Support utilization of existing education-based technologies, (including library software) by working with faculty and other staff through just in time one-on-one support, formal training sessions, and 24/7 eaccessible/digitally-based training.

  • Teach/Mentor and Support technology based curriculum such as, Scratch, Robotics, Coding, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar tools to help others use them

  • Exceptional collaborative skills, interpersonal abilities, and patience

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills, including ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and follow through to completion

  • Ability to help adults’ problem solve with a solution-oriented approach

  • Ability to explain technical concepts and theories to non-technical audiences

  • Able to stay late/come in early for all events at the school for technology setup and assist with running PowerPoints, Movies at the discretion of teachers/staff/admin

  • “Microsoft Innovative Educator” certifications from the Office365 Education training program
