Job Overview
The Technology Specialist & Teacher collaborates extensively with the technology team to provide support and to develop and implement an effective media and technology program in order to  provide all students with access to technology. Technology support is provided through performance of user administration, hardware and software support, and maintenance of server and network  environments. The Technology Specialist serves as a curriculum consultant to teachers and related service providers who are seeking strategies and tools to integrate technology into classroom curriculum.  The Technology Specialist & Teacher is responsible for conducting 6 instructional classes to students per week.  Classes will be led at our SKILLs program.

Technology Support

  • User administration for staff and students for email and active directory accounts
  • Maintain hardware inventory
  • Maintain software inventory and track software licenses
  • Assist in maintenance of iPads and app purchases
  • Installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Mac and PC desktop and laptop computers
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of servers  
  • Maintain staff data in IRIS system (emergency alert system)
  • Configuration and  maintenance of printers, scanners and copiers
  • Phone system support
  • Maintain AV equipment and assist in setups for school assemblies and meetings
  • Regular maintenance of smartboards and contact with vendor for support
  • Keep up to date with technology changes in the field of education.  Provide staff development.
  • Attend technology meetings

Technology Lab Instructor

  • Teach one period of technology per week to 6 class cohorts (6 periods/week)
  • Develop appropriate curriculum to meet needs of students
  • Manage selection of new materials and resources in collaboration with the Cooke Director of Technology and Administration
  • Communicate Technology Lab needs to administration
  • Develop policies and procedures for student and faculty use of technology lab
  • Plan classroom activities that promote appropriate technology knowledge acquisition for all students
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and resources to implement lesson plans
  • Monitor all students’ safe and appropriate usage of technology

Technology Consultant

  • Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to integrate technology within the classroom
  • Offer techniques, strategies, and problem-solving advice regarding technology within the classroom (SMART boards, iPads, software, etc.)
  • Serve as a resource regarding new opportunities related to using technology within the special education population
  • Provide leadership in assessing, evaluating, and implementing information and instructional technologies
  • Serve as a liaison for Faculty to Director of Technology regarding IT needs (e.g. hardware, software)

Education and Prior Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of technology resources for schools is mandatory
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • New York State Teaching Certification preferred

All Cooke staff are responsible for developing a professional growth plan with their supervisor.  Staff training is an integral part of the Cooke school and as such is a requirement of the job.  All staff must at a minimum: attend all scheduled Staff Development activities throughout the year and participate in staff orientation scheduled for the last week in August.
