The Technology Support Specialist (Technical) works to ensure the presence and functionality of all IT infrastructure for the organization. S/he also works to ensure that current and useful technology and software are available and implemented by the administrative staff of the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as second-level contact to resolve escalated support desk tickets or to resolve tickets when Academic Technology Support Specialist is teaching classes

  • Manage Technology professional development for staff

  • Work with school administration in the development and implementation of a comprehensive technology plan for the school

  • Maintain, install and test software applications on computer hardware

  • Maintain record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities

  • Manage wireless access points and ensure reliable wireless access across campus

  • Manage network security

  • Assure the integrity and continual operation of the IT network

  • Maintain inventories of hardware components, software licenses, and warranties

  • Support server, network, and desktop hardware and applications

  • Monitor data backup system

  • Serve as primary contact with outside IT-related vendors

  • Solicit, and provide recommendations on, quotes for purchases of equipment, software, programming, services, etc.

  • Assist with the yearly application for, and evaluation of, the Erate program

  • Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, outside professional development trainings, and other professional activities as needed

  • Create and proctor a STEM-based after-school club that will meet one day per week

  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technology-related field

  • Experience managing an organization-wide server and network, including network safety

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with third-party vendors and contractors to secure quotes and guarantee quality of work or service rendered

  • Ability to research and/or test available software for academic administration, fundraising, database management, human resources, finance, etc. in order to make recommendations to the various administrators within the organization

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365

  • Thorough knowledge of Active Directory/Exchange Server

  • A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional certifications, experience with Java or C++ is a plus preferred

  • Experience with managing a budget is preferred

  • Experience with advanced help desk/support desk functions

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more and to crawl under desks and into tight spaces.
