Technology Teacher

Full time, exempt position

Beginning 2015-2016 School Year

San Francisco Day School, a coeducation K-8 school of 400, is seeking an exceptional curriculum coach and engaging teacher to help lead our technology integration and innovation efforts across the curriculum. We seek to employ a teacher who understands children and young adolescents, finds joy in interacting with them, knows educational technology, and is a skilled and inspiring teacher. The ideal candidate will desire to play an active role in the San Francisco Day School community.

San Francisco Day School’s technology department is an energizing place to work and grow. The school’s resources include one-to-one student iPads in grades 3-8 and iPad and Mac OS carts available to all grade levels. The Technology Teacher promotes the mission by supporting students, faculty, and staff in their integration of technology into their work and studies. The Technology Teacher provides direct instruction to students, aids constituents with front-line technology support, and collaborates with peer educators in technology integration. He or she joins a strong technology department staffed by a Director of Technology & 21st Century Learning, a Network Administrator, and two Technology Teachers.

The Technology Teacher will be an educator who promotes innovative curricular design and excites students with new programs, ideas, and digital tools. Digital tools help students learn critical thinking and are used by teachers to enhance the design and implementation of inquiry based learning units. The school is poised to grow its existing use of robotics, coding, and maker tools alongside digital tools such as iPads. Our rich program includes many programs in math, science, the arts, engineering, and design challenges (STEAM). Throughout the school, teachers incorporate a design mindset into their classrooms; students work with both hands-on materials and digital tools. The Technology Teacher will be an enthusiastic team player in these efforts and will promote cross-curricular efforts. The school’s commitment to developing critical thinking, problems solving and, its eight “Habits of Mind” is central to the work of the technology team. The school is aware of the increasing impact of social media in our lives and works proactively with parents and families on digital identity and citizenship

We seek someone with classroom teaching experience and a strong academic background. As listed in the NAIS Principles of Good Practice, an inspiring SFDS teacher has thorough knowledge, uses a variety of teaching techniques, establishes positive relationships with students, collaborates with colleagues, initiates professional development, supports the mission, serves outside the classroom, and adheres to professional standards and models integrity and respect. Formal training, practical knowledge, experience, and – most importantly – curiosity in solving technology challenges with Mac OS and iOS is highly preferred.

San Francisco Day School welcomes and celebrates children, families, faculty, and staff that reflect the broad range of diversity in the Bay Area. The School values the strengths and accomplishments of the individuals who are part of the community and takes pride in the diversity and special character of the community as a whole. We fully and actively support equal opportunity for all people and encourage people of color and LGBT applicants to apply. SFDS offers excellent benefits and a competitive salary.

Please send a resume, salary expectations and a cover letter explaining why your experience is appropriate for this position to: hr+tech@sfds.net. Please be sure to mention “Technology 2016A” in the subject line. No phone calls please.
