Job Summary:

ASUCD Unitrans provides fixed route transit services for the City of Davis & the UC Davis Campus, 18 hours per day, seven days per week, nearly 365 days a year which relies on IT systems to ensure safe, timely, & efficient operations. With a small team of part time student employees & with a high degree of autonomy, the IT Manager is responsible for assisting the IT needs of a user base of approximately 250 career & student staff & overseeing a hardware inventory of over $250,000. This includes support, maintenance, & as-needed development of Unitrans internally developed web application used to track extensive operations, payroll, driver training, customer service, & personnel data. Unitrans also has a public web site (Unitrans.com) devoted to communicating information to the general public as well as the real time tracking contract with Nextbus, Inc. that the IT Manager is responsible for maintaining. The IT manager closely coordinates with ASUCD Creative Media in the acquisition, use, maintenance, & support of the Unitrans computer network & software as well as collaboration & support on IT issues facing ASUCD as a whole.  

Physical Demands:

  • Work eight hours daily, which will require standing, reaching, stooping, bending & lifting items such as computers weighing up to 25 pounds each. 

  • Distribute & file data output for extended periods of time. 

  • Work occasional, unpredictable evenings/nights & occasional weekends on short notice. On-call support required at times to ensure smooth transit operations. Flexibility with work hours as needed to support transit operations.  

Work Environment:

  • 
This position requires operation of computer equipment in close quarters & working long hours when necessary.  

  • Work in a traditional office environment, although occasionally provide support in a vehicle maintenance shop that often encounters loud noises, airborne dust, & strong odors. 
 

  • Position may, at times, require employee to work in areas where hazardous chemicals/materials are present.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal & verbal communication skills to work & interact with staff & students at all levels within Unitrans & the University with courtesy, diplomacy, & tact. 

  • Good verbal & written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking, & time management skills. 

  • Experience using web frameworks such as Mach II, Zend, Flask, & Django. 

  • Experience designing, developing, modifying, debugging, & evaluating Oracle, MySQL, & PostgreSQL databases. 

  • Ability to set priorities, make independent decisions & meet deadlines required of the position.  

Preferred Qualifications:

General knowledge or understanding of transit operations.
