Founded in 2009, Speyer is an independent school that serves gifted students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.

The User Systems Support Specialist position requires a dynamic and experienced technologist with a broad and deep understanding of technology in an educational environment to coordinate day-to-day support of user systems and software as well as audio/visual and printer systems.

This is a full-time, 12-month, salaried position reporting to the Chief Information and Technology Officer. The User Systems Support Specialist is at the forefront of technology support at Speyer, has leadership opportunities, and contributes to the overall school technology vision. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the CIO/CTO

  • Manage the Helpdesk system

    • Make sure that issues are addressed courteously, promptly, and efficiently

    • Resolve technical issues for students, faculty, staff, and administration

    • Assign tickets to the Academic Technology Coordinators as appropriate

    • Educate users in the use of technology by guiding them and empowering them to solve problems independently

    • Effectively document resolutions to build a knowledge base

    • Support software usage and enhancements

    • Act as first point of escalation (level 2) for the Academic Technology Coordinators

    • Escalate complicated issues (level 3+) and work with the CIO/CTO to resolve them

  • Maintain user hardware devices

    • Coordinate troubleshooting and repair of devices

    • Coordinate device deployments

    • Administer Chromebooks using the Google Workspace Administrative Console and GoGuardian

    • Administer Macbooks and iPads using JAMF Pro/Cloud

    • Maintain and support the dwindling number of MS Windows clients

    • Maintain inventory information and an updated asset database

    • Maintain loaner equipment

  • Maintain printers and coordinate with Speyer’s service provider for the larger multifunction printer/copiers

    • Assume responsibility for printer server and software related to printer management

  • Maintain audio/visual equipment such as classroom multimedia and interactive projectors

  • Coordinate with vendors for larger installations and repairs

  • Maintain the PA system

  • Manage event setups (microphones, projected presentations) during the day and occasionally on evenings and rarely on weekends

  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot handsets and the SIP telephone infrastructure

  • Assist with the purchasing and managing of technology inventory and licenses

  • Assist with management of various cloud platforms, such as Schoology

  • Assist with network and datacenter needs

  • Support parents as needed through our parent support email service

  • Assist in providing end-user training and workshops and in creating and maintaining technology documentation and tutorials

  • Enthusiastically encourage teachers and students to use technology in meaningful ways

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects, with competing priorities, to completion

  • Experience with current technologies used in educational institutions

  • Experience in educational (or other child-centric) environment preferred

  • Proficiency with Mac OS required

  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking strongly preferred

  • Proficiency with MS Windows strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with JAMF strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and Chrome device management strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with Active Directory preferred

  • Familiarity with Windows servers preferred

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Interest in tinkering, making, doing, and staying abreast of new technologies
