Purpose: The American University in Cairo is embarking on an ambitious strategy to transform its services to students and society, optimize its operations, empower its faculty and staff and bolster its academic and research capabilities. Effective and forward looking usage of digital technology is one of the critical factors of success for this strategy. The University is seeking to appoint a Chief Digital Officer to spearhead its efforts and lead the different teams to formulate and execute this strategy.

The position will directly report to the University President and be a member of the executive team. It will involve direct interaction with senior stake holders in the University and its Board of Trustees.

The chosen candidate will be offered a vice president level compensation and will carry the formal title of Vice President and Chief Digital Officer.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

Principal accountabilities will range from strategy formation to leading execution. They will involve management of the IT staff and infrastructure, ownership of operational budgets, interaction with multiple end users and stake holders, and accountability of the end results, which will range from student experience to operational improvements, as well as image and reputation.

The technology solutions will include but will not be limited to: Hybrid Cloud IT Management, Enterprise Grade Applications and implementation, supporting Academic Research: with Analytics & Visualization, Storage and Collaboration, and Big compute, Connected Campus/School Experiences, Student Lifecycle and Success Management and enabling new experiences in Teaching and Learning.

As this is a new role, the Vice President and Chief Digital Officer will have to display a high level of leadership, agility and flexibility as the role and expectations develop over time. This role is about helping us dream big and achieve even bigger.

 

Requirements:

 

A senior leader able to formulate strategy, build high performing teams, set a high bar for execution and deliver complex projects on time and on budget. We are looking for exceptional communication capabilities, influencing skills and a unique combination of technology appreciation and business acumen.

Applicants should not be restricted to those with experience in academia, although experience using technology in learning and research will be an asset. Candidates who demonstrate creativity and entrepreneurial spirits will be favored.

Appreciation and expertise in enterprise and modern applications design, business productivity, collaboration and knowledge management tools, web, mobile and social media interactions, cloud computing concepts and strategy as well as databases, and business intelligence is a must. Appreciation of architecture, life-cycle management and end-user experience are also essential elements of the profile.
