Workplace Technology Services (WTS) is responsible for adopting, deploying, and maintaining campus-wide workplace services for faculty, staff, and students. This includes email, calendaring, web content management, signature, mobile technologies, collaboration services, and business intelligence. 

The Web Project & Operations Manager uses skills as a seasoned, experienced digital communications professional to produce design and layout for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex web site applications; ensure search engine optimization; and develop social media platforms. Demonstrates a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. As part of Workplace Technology Services (WTS), the Web Project & Operations Manager works directly with campus clients to demonstrate the features and capabilities of the campus Web Content Management System (CMS) and once clients decide to utilize the system, defines the client's website requirements, identifies resource needs, assigns individual responsibilities, creates and executes project work plans, and deploys the website and supporting systems. 

Responsibilities:

  • Determine resourcing needs for each project by developing Statements of Work (SOW). This includes developing schedules and task lists that clearly identify roles and responsibilities for each project team member.
  • Create timelines and track progress of multiple projects making sure they are on time.
  • Working with the User Experience Designer, analyze and recommend website information architecture; develop wire frames and site maps, and communicate recommendations to clients.
  • Advise departments on best practices in the areas of site architecture, user-centered design, and web content layout. Assist with HTML and Cascading Stylesheet (CSS) troubleshooting and coding as necessary and develop social media platforms.
  • Utilize student workers and full time staff to coordinate content migration strategies that meet timeline and customer requirements.
  • Train all new campus-wide CMS clients and respond to ongoing client inquiries. Manage and respond to site and CMS user inquiries, manage day-to-day client interaction, and set and manage client expectations. The CMS currently contains hundreds of campus-wide websites.
  • Coordinate CMS user group meetings which drive enhancements to the CMS. Translate feedback into technical specifications and coordinate the implementation with the technical team. Document and train end users as appropriate.
  • Ensure search engine optimization by running analytic reports on website traffic, monitor search trends, and recommend adjustments to search algorithms and Web information architecture as a result of the reports. Monitor websites in the CMS to ensure they adhere to Section 508 Guidelines for Web Accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Serve on campus-wide and UC-wide committees related to Web content management. Present and demonstrate system features.
  • Responsible for keeping up with Web industry trends and ensuring the campus websites in the CMS are at the forefront of those trends. Demonstrate a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures.
  • In addition to CMS website development projects, manage cross-functional software application projects that entail gathering requirements from business owners, developing software requirements specifications and managing the project through deployment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs. Comprehensive understanding of techniques used in web communication and web development within the confines of a CMS.
  • Demonstrated experience in web content writing and editing. Experience gathering content and formatting it for optimization on the web. Excellent copyrighting, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
  • Experience training end users in updating websites using a CMS, instructing users on both the technical aspects of a CMS and web content best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with web project management keeping users on task with deliverables associated with the web development process. Demonstrated experience with services such as interactive web forms using a form building product such as Machforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
  • Familiarity with Hannon Hill Cascade Server, is preferred.
