The Opportunity

Avenues is seeking a Website Manager to join the Information Systems & Technology team and lead the direction, implementation, and development of our website and online properties. This role will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development to align with Avenues’ organization, brand, and technical requirements. In addition, he/she will also design, code and modify websites from layout to function according to Avenues’ graphic standards and specifications. This includes optimizing web analytics, SEO and performance metrics and reporting associated to our online activities in coordination with the admissions and creative teams for the best outcome for Avenues.

The Information Systems and Technology team is comprised of outstanding professionals at the intersection of education, operations, and technology. With the advantages of modern technology and a highly-talented global team, they share a common goal to support the Avenues vision to eventually bring together 35,000 students and 3,000+ faculty members through a number of traditional and virtual modalities.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will bring proven abilities in these two areas:

Website Development and Architecture

  • "Mastermind" the continuous development of all Avenues websites, ensuring sites meet both client and school needs, align with the brand strategy, and meet Avenues Web standards
  • Partner from internal and external editors, designers, developers, and other staff to produce and update website content
  • Demonstrated ability to manage website processes
  • Ability to develop, maintain and create web architecture and applications with deep expertise and hands on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and API's.
  • Communicate web/digital strategies to diverse audiences, manage multiple projects and maintain web schedules and development budgets.
  • Develop detailed user interface documents, mock-ups, and prototypes in conjunction with the team designer to provide a greatly enhanced and usable series of content and applications.

Website Administration

  • Administration of web systems, domains, content, hosting, and processes
  • Provide recommendations and implementation on optimizing web processes and performance
  • Provide technical web leadership to ensure the optimum security of all Avenues’ online intellectual properties and domains.
  • Support Information Systems and Technology operations for web specific events

Qualifications

Candidates should have most, if not all, of the following:

  • Energized by Avenues’ mission and opportunity for impact in education
  • 5+ years experience in website development, architecture and navigation, and project management
  • Strong understanding of usability practices, information design, hierarchical analysis, architecture design
  • Front-end skills - HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, Other Javascript libraries, Bootstrap and Responsive Design
  • Back-end skills - Experience building custom themes, plugins, widgets, WordPress filters, WordPress hooks, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of web performance optimization, caching, analytics and SEO
  • Experience working with WP Engine Server, Amazon Web Services, Akamai, Finalsite
  • Multimedia Content Development  - Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
