Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants to apply for the position of Instructional Technology and Design Administrator. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Teaching and Faculty Development while work is conducted as assigned from the Office of Academic Affairs. The Instructional Technology and Design Administrator is the primary system administrator for the university's learning management systems which include but is not limited to D2L (Brightspace), Georgia On My Line (GOML), eCore and other integrated tools. This position partners with other instructional designers and developers to deploy engaging e-learning courses, web based training content and online communication applications as well as oversees the installation of all system updates, upgrades, integrated tools, and other integrated software.

The incumbent will:

  • Lead and assist in online teaching certification for faculty.

  • Design and develop quality online courses and learning objects.

  • Serve as D2L technical lead to the university with a focus on first time resolution of learner issues.

  • Provide daily technical support for faculty, staff and students, including support of D2L maintenance issues.

  • Recommend delivery strategies that yield a rich, meaningful and dynamic experience and are appropriate for multiple audiences.

  • Collaborate with university entities to establish training strategies, instructional objectives and end user workshops and training sessions.

  • Lead the creation, documentation and training of LMS standards, policies and procedures; maintain data integrity rules and processes.

  • Develop and enforce standards; maintain quality review, publishing, uploading and version control of electronic training material.

  • Track and report on certification and LMS training and use as requested or required.

  • In partnership with departments, analyze LMS performance and/or compliance issues and recommend potential solutions and develop associated learning strategies.

  • Utilize LMS reporting and monitoring capabilities to develop custom reports to assist with planning and evaluation of effectiveness, compliance and relevance of training programs.

  • Conduct face-to-face and online workshops and provide consultation and support.

  • Assist in maintaining university and USG Distance Learning initiatives, strategies, programs, and processes.

  • Assist in evaluating online instructional materials, provide consultation with administration, faculty, staff and students.

  • Provide guidelines for instructional design and performance improvement processes.

  • Identify training and instructional design needs, promote quality assurance in online courses, SACSCOC and BOR accreditation guidelines, quality pedagogical, andragogy and synergogy instructional methods, copyright, and ADA requirements.

  • Serves as an institutional administrator for online Brightspace by D2L, GeorgiaVIEW, Georgia ONmyLine, serve on various committees.

  • May be required to perform other job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this description.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience working in higher education, training or online teaching with at least two years of experience with multiple online learning platforms.

  • Broad-based knowledge and skill in operating a variety of software applications used in multimedia, courseware development and learning management systems (i.e. Skype, Webex, etc).

  • Experience working specifically with the D2L.

  • Ability to work and train in both PC and Macintosh environments.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, basic networking principles, web browser, email client, and integrated office suites and web-based development tools.

  • Experience with query and report development and analysis.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and ability to deliver effective oral and written communications.

  • Proven experience with curriculum and instructional design principle and practices to include adult learning theories, structure writing techniques, interactive training, learning design, e-learning design principle, self-paced instruction and evaluation methods.

  • Detail-oriented leadership with a demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred in instructional design, instructional technology, computer science or related field.

  • Familiarity with Quality Matters
