Job Summary

The Technology Specialist supports district staff and students by providing advanced technical support, maintaining IT infrastructure, and assisting in the administration of servers, networking, and enterprise systems. This role serves as an escalation point for complex technical issues beyond Level 1 support, ensures the security and reliability of technology services across the district, and contributes to the implementation of district-wide technology initiatives.

*This position reports to the Director of Technology.

Essential Functions

  • Provides advanced technical support for hardware, software, networking, and enterprise systems by resolving escalated issues from Level 1 technicians and end users.
  • Installs, configures, tests, and repairs technology equipment, including servers, endpoints, network devices, wireless systems, and telecom equipment across district sites.
  • Assists in the administration of Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, Entra, virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, vCenter, vSphere), and other enterprise systems.
  • Supports LAN/WAN infrastructure, including fiber and Ethernet installations, network topology design, and follow-up testing.
  • Deploys and maintains instructional and productivity software, ensuring compatibility and compliance with district standards.
  • Monitors and maintains system security, backups, antivirus solutions, and other critical IT safeguards.
  • Documents procedures, system changes, and troubleshooting steps to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing within the technology team.
  • Participates in IT projects, including system upgrades, deployments, and technology plan implementation.
  • Collaborates with vendors and service providers to resolve escalated issues and support new technology initiatives.
  • Provides occasional training and guidance to staff on district-approved software and acceptable use policies.
  • Maintains district technology resources such as websites, databases, and equipment inventories.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of district technology.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills

  • Ability to perform multiple technical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows operating systems, servers, and enterprise applications.
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols, wireless systems, and security practices.
  • Competence with endpoint management, imaging, and ticketing systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, manage projects, and communicate effectively with staff and vendors.

Knowledge

  • Methods, procedures, and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of computers, servers, and networking hardware/software.
  • Enterprise-level systems such as Active Directory, Windows Server, Entra, Hyper-V, vCenter, and vSphere.
  • District-standard productivity and educational applications.
  • Policies and best practices regarding IT security, data privacy, licensing, and compliance.

Work Environment

The job requires:

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Frequent fine finger dexterity and use of small tools.
  • Approximately 35% sitting, 30% walking, and 35% standing.
  • Work performed in a generally clean and safe environment.

Experience

  • Two years of job-related IT support experience required.
  • Prior experience in an educational environment preferred.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
