Innovation and Technology Teacher

Overview of Position

The Innovation and Technology Teacher is a key member of the faculty responsible for teaching

foundational technology, engineering, and computer science skills to students in grades K–5.

This position supports the integration of technology and design thinking throughout the

curriculum while fostering a learning environment that promotes curiosity, problem-solving,

perseverance, and responsible digital citizenship.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, innovative educator who combines strong technical

knowledge with a passion for working with young learners. This teacher will work closely with

classroom teachers, support cross-disciplinary initiatives, and maintain the K-5 technology and

robotics resources.

The Innovation and Technology position is an exempt, full-time, 10-month in-person position

reporting to the Associate Head of School for Academics. The start date is August 5, 2026.

Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities

Teaching and Instruction

● Teach age-appropriate courses encompassing computer skills, digital citizenship, engineering principles, robotics, and introductory coding to students in grades K-5.

●  Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that encourage creativity, experimentation, and the engineering design process.

●  Guide students in using tools such as micro:bit kits, LEGO engineering kits, Squishy

●  Circuits, Scratch, JavaScript, TinkerCAD, 3D printers, and other educational technologies.. ntroduce and reinforce responsible online behavior and internet safety.

●  Assess new students’ technology proficiency and design differentiated instruction to support diverse learning needs.

Curriculum Integration and Collaboration

● Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate engineering, robotics, computer science, and STEAM concepts into core academic areas.

●  Support interdisciplinary projects that strengthen communication, teamwork, empathy, and innovation.

Program and Resource Management

● Maintain and organize Lower School technology resources, including computers,

robotics equipment, and STEM materials.

● Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues and model proper device care for students.

●  Apply cognitive science and educational research to inform instructional strategies and

classroom design.

Assessment, Reporting, and Communication

● Establish clear goals and objectives for units and lessons, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate classroom records.

●  Prepare and submit grade reports and student narrative comments at required intervals.

●  Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators, including participating in student and parent conferences as needed.

Professional Responsibilities

● Participate in faculty meetings, assemblies, back-to-school nights, admissions events, and other community gatherings.

●  Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to remain current with emerging educational technologies.

●  Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School for Academics or school leadership.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in education, computer science, engineering, educational technology, or a related field required.

●  Prior teaching experience with elementary-aged children preferred.

●  Ability to teach basic computer skills, digital citizenship, engineering design, and introductory coding to young learners.

●  Experience with educational robotics platforms, maker spaces, and hands-on STEM activities.

●  Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic technology issues and support students in appropriate device care.

●  Strong classroom management skills suitable for young learners.

●  Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to children, families, and colleagues.
