MakerSpace Coordinator

 

The Coordinator of the Library MakerSpace Center manages, develops and delivers innovative maker programming within the creative engineering MakerSpace in support of the Academy’s Mission.  The supervisor is a pioneering and imaginative teacher who will collaborate directly with faculty and students to apply design thinking principles across the middle school curriculum. Reports to the Middle School Director.

 

Accountabilities

 

Ø  Collaborates with faculty in integrating Design Thinking, Video, Making, Coding and Robotics into existing curriculum through workshops, seminars, one-on-one sessions, co–teaching and student projects in the Library MakerSpace.
 

Ø  Instructs faculty and students on programming and production topics such as video, photo, 3D modeling, laser and vinyl cutters, electronics, and word working.
 

Ø  Mentors middle school students in designing and implementing their experiential maker projects.
 

Ø  Creates and manages making projects and timelines for the Library MakerSpace including, calendar of events, program activities, professional development and annual MakeSpace Fair.
 

Ø  Teaches the Library MakerSpace Elective Curriculum.
 

Ø  Researches, recommends, manages and implements the necessary equipment, furnishings and software as related to the Library MakerSpace.
 

Ø  Conveys the Library MakerSpace projects thru an online presence and conference presentations.
 

Ø  Develops policies and procedures for safe use of tools and materials in the Library MakerSpace.

 

Ø  Identifies and reports outcomes in MakerSpace Library program and makes improvements to enhance growth & integration.
 

Ø  Collaborates with Thayer’s technology committee members, other global individuals and organizations participating in the Maker movement.
 

Ø  Perform other duties as assigned by  MS Director
 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology/ Design, Curriculum and Instruction or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in maker movement.
  • Proficient in Apple Productivity Suite, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office, TinkerCAD
    • Experience with a wide range of digital technology tools especially Arudino, Makey Makey, 3D printing, Laser and vinyl cutting.
    • Experience with programming languages such as Scratch, Beetleblocks, Javascript, and HTML.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and team collaboration skills.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages & backgrounds.
    • Solve real-world problems and deal with abstract variables on projects where only limited standardization exits.

Physical Requirements

 

  • Manual dexterity to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to frequently lift/move 10 lbs. and occasionally lift/move50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision.
  • Regularly required to stand: walk: sit and reach with hands and arms.
