Director of Technology

Stuart Hall School for Boys is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Technology for the 2018-2019 school year.

Stuart Hall School for Boys was founded in 1984 by William M. Gallop in response to the long-time need for a Catholic and Independent boys' school in the New Orleans area at the preschool and elementary levels. The School was named for Janet Erskine Stuart, a well-known religious of the Sacred Heart who was an English educator living at the turn of the century. Janet Erskine Stuart's writings and philosophy transcend the limits of time and represent the basis upon which the school was founded.  The School is autonomous in setting its curriculum and determining its future.  The School is a member of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Independent School Association of the Southwest (ISAS), and the International Boys’ Schools Coalition (IBSC).

Stuart Hall is a unique expression of Catholic education because it is totally administered and staffed by lay people. The traditions of Catholic education, such as First Friday Services, Mass, chapel, the religion program, and the prayer life are meaningful expressions of the Catholic faith.

Director of Technology Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Technology will play a critical role in providing leadership in all aspects of technology. This position is responsible for both the overall direction of the school’s educational technology program and the management of technology and technical support for all constituents at the school.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Manages, maintains and optimizes a robust network infrastructure, including management of servers, switches, wireless systems and all related network appliances.
• Sets personal goals in accordance with the stated Goals of Stuart Hall education and reports on achievement of these goals.
• Implements the spirit of the Mission Statement of Stuart Hall School throughout the school.
• Teaches 7th grade computer classes and assists teachers and students in the computer lab.
• Monitors Acceptable Use Policy for school community.
• Ensures high levels of security and up-time for the network, and the devices that use it.
• Provides technical support to faculty, staff and students on any and all technology-related issues. This includes all hardware, software, network and general-usage issues.
• Collaborates with teachers and peers to develop a plan for meaningful integration of computer science components into existing curriculum that emphasize critical thinking and problem solving, including design thinking and Making
• Assists with the maintenance and repair of all school technology (desktop and laptop computers, servers, printers, digital cameras, AV equipment, etc.).
• Meets with teachers to provide professional one-to-one support and group-training for the integration of technology into classroom curriculum.
• Provides Audio/Visual support for school presentations or functions where it is required. This may require attendance of school events outside of standard school hours.
• Participates in department wide projects and attends regular department meetings.
• Researches evolving best practices and participates in ongoing professional development related to the integration of academic technology and computer science education
• Assists in planning, budgeting, and acquiring new purchases

Preferred Qualifications:

• A dynamic and positive personality coupled with a proactive approach to support is essential.
• The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate with teachers of various backgrounds to successfully integrate meaningful technology and computer science components into existing curriculum.
• An approachable and flexible person with excellent people and communication skills.
• Extensive theoretical and practical Network and Security knowledge.
• Detailed knowledge of Windows and Mac Hardware and Operating Systems including: imaging, program troubleshooting, drivers, internet settings, network settings, system files, backup programs, peripherals and program integration.
• Apple certification (ACMT) is highly desired.
• Knowledge of the Google Suite for Education, the BlackbaudK12 OnSuite, the Adobe Creative Suite and/or the MS Office Suite is preferable.
• Ability to maintain current and up-to-date expertise in a wide range of hardware, software and Operating Systems.
• Capacity to work both autonomously and as a team member.
• Teaching experience in a PK-7th environment, preferably in an independent school.
• A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is preferred in Business or Education, or another field specializing in Instructional Technology or Information Technology Management.
• Strong organization, time and project management skills; problem solving skills; ability to exercise independent judgment; ability to establish effective working relationships with other faculty, staff and parents; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Provide leadership for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s information technology systems school-wide—draft plans, protocols, policies, timelines, schedules, workflows, and evaluate success.
• Develop and implement a technology plan that meets the current and future needs of a dynamic 21st-Century learning environment, which includes the METALS (STEAM) program.
