Goals of Position:

  • Ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information
  • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement units of instruction, and assess student learning

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers as partners in instructional process, and design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry, information literacies, and critical thinking
  • Foster a creative, flexible environment within a professional, neat physical space that establishes the library as an essential part of the learning community
  • Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning, as well as the ethical use of information
  • Provide and plan for ongoing professional development for faculty in collaboration with division heads, director of teaching and learning, and head librarian
  • Through implementation of a school-wide, scaffolded program, teach students to build on prior knowledge to construct new knowledge
  • Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning
  • Stay current in professional practices, educational research and maintain professional memberships
  • Develop and maintain resources appropriate to the curriculum, learners, and instructional strategies of the school community
  • Manage library outreach efforts, including visiting authors, and partnerships with other libraries and agencies
  • Manage parent volunteers in LS and Terry libraries
  • Establish and implement procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and sharing of resources in all formats

Scheduled Duties:

  • Teach weekly library classes for grades PK-3
  • Collaborate with faculty in grades PK-5 to effectively integrate technology into curriculum, including co-teaching during IPC and other classroom periods as needed
  • Present regularly at faculty meetings as part of ongoing professional development in technology and information sciences
  • Complete arrival, dismissal, lunch and recess duties as assigned
  • Write narrative comments for student progress reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in education, library science, or instructional technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven skills in collaboration and instructional leadership
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
