Director of the Carter Innovation Studio

The Athenian School
Search dates
Apr 2021 to Jun 2021
Start date
Jul 2021
Location
Danville, CA

Innovation is at the doorstep of The Athenian School — or perhaps more accurately, at the base of Mt. Diablo. Athenian is a school where virtually every part of its 75-acre campus near the San Francisco East Bay hills is a space for discovery and experimentation. But what makes Athenian truly unique is the role of the student in the learning process. Students don’t just own their learning, they live it — whether spending three months building musical instruments or spending three weeks camping in the wilderness.

The Carter Innovation Studio (CIS) is part of the newest learning commons on campus, having opened in fall 2018. This 5,200 square foot design lab features a shop area with metal and woodworking tools, an industrial arts area, a computer/CADD/3-D printer space, and three classrooms. Its central location at the heart of campus is no accident. The CIS is a hub of experiential learning activity for both middle and high school students. Athenian seeks a director of the Carter Innovation Studio with a passion for design, engineering, fabrication, and a welcoming presence to other teachers. This position reports to the assistant head of school and begins on July 1, 2021.

Internationalism. Democracy. Environmentalism. Adventure. Leadership. Service. These are the pillars of Round Square, an international network of 180+ schools in 50+ countries that The Athenian School co-founded. Athenian, a grades 6-12 day and boarding independent school located on 75 acres near the rolling East Bay hills of the San Francisco Bay Area, has been living out its mission of experiential learning as a Round Square school since 1966.

At Athenian, leading educational technology is more about creating an invitation for faculty to experience and explore new ideas than it is about deploying hardware for the sake of rapid change. Athenian seeks a director of educational technology who is skilled at building faculty partnerships and adept with technology design and implementation — from both an instructional and systems point of view. The job includes oversight of two IT professionals and affords the opportunity to collaborate with numerous coordinators, deans, and directors working in different co-curricular domains. The next director of educational technology at Athenian will start July 1, 2021.

Director of Library Services and Instructional Technology

The Park School

Start date
Jul 2021
Location
Baltimore, MD

The Park School, a PK-12, independent day school located on 100 acres in Baltimore, celebrates core values rooted in the progressive educational philosophy of John Dewey. At Park, there is an unshakable belief in children’s capacity to enjoy learning, to act rationally, and to grow when inspired by highly qualified, caring teachers. A fundamental commitment to inclusiveness and equity guides all programs and activities. Building on that commitment, the school recently developed a comprehensive anti-racist action plan shaped by students, alumni, parents, and employees.

Park is also building on recent momentum and enthusiasm for instructional technology and information literacy by creating a new position: director of library services and instructional technology (DLSIT). This role will oversee two co-curricular academic departments and be charged with augmenting Park’s student research program, which for Park is at the intersection of technology and information literacy. In parallel, the school created a new operational technology position (director of IT and information services) that, along with the DLSIT and two associate heads of school, will form a new Technology Cabinet. This collaborative model of technology governance aligns with Park’s approach to shared leadership and consensus-driven decision making. The director of library services and instructional technology starts July 1, 2021 and reports to the associate head of school for academics.

Since the pandemic, Park has seen an increased reliance on technology services and enterprise applications. Because Park does not expect this demand to subside post-pandemic, the leadership team has created a new director-level position, director of IT and information services (DITIS), to oversee support services, all back-end technology operations, as well as the school’s enterprise data / systems environment. In parallel, the school created a new instructional technology position (director of library services and instructional technology) that, along with the DITIS and two associate heads of school, will form a new Technology Cabinet. Jul 2021
Location
North Hollywood, CA

Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults; where preparing students for the future occurs by immersing them in the present; where joy and humor prevail alongside academic rigor; and where authentic relationships engage students with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.

On July 1, the Oakwood community is excited to build an authentic relationship with a director of educational innovation and technology services, a new role for the school. Like many schools this past year, Oakwood has leaned more heavily into technology during the pandemic, and the community is ready to build on that momentum once the pandemic is over. The director will oversee a sizable department, which includes an IT unit of four and several instructional technologists working across Oakwood’s two campuses. The director will report to the head of school, will be guided by the COO on operational matters, and will collaborate extensively with the principals of the three academic divisions.
